Marcel Schrötter geht daher mit einem Erfolgserlebnis und einem guten Gefühl in seine kurze Winterpause.

Der 29-jährige Marcel Schrötter hat eine lange Saison mit einem Gaststart beim Finale der Australischen Superbike-Meisterschaft beendet. Nach seinem gelungenen Debüt in der Supersport-Weltmeisterschaft vor einer Woche auf Phillip Island reiste Schrötter Anfang der Woche weiter nach Adelaide, wo er sich mit seinem Kumpel Jack Miller traf und von dort aus zur neuen Rennstrecke «The Bend Motorsports Park», etwa eine Autostunde von Adelaide entfernt, weiterfuhr. Der australische MotoGP-Pilot hat eigens für diesen Anlass kurzfristig ein Team zusammengestellt.

Bei schönem und stabilem Wetter während des gesamten Wochenendes war es für Schrötter keine leichte Aufgabe, sich auf Anhieb im starken Starterfeld zu etablieren. Hinzu kamen Probleme mit der Elektronik und mangelnde Streckenkenntnis für den anspruchsvollen, knapp 5 Kilometer langen Kurs im Bundesstaat South Australia. Am Sonntag kämpfte sich der Bayer jedoch von Startplatz 14 bis auf den zehnten Platz im ersten Rennen vor. Das zweite Rennen war nach einer Kollision kurz nach dem Start quasi gelaufen. Schrötter konnte das Rennen zwar fortsetzen und beenden, wurde aber anschliessend aus der Wertung genommen.

Nach diesem Abstecher in die Superbike-Szene wird sich Schrötter nun auf seinen nächstjährigen Einsatz beim italienischen Team MV Agusta Reparto Corse in der FIM Supersport World Championship vorbereiten. Die Saison beginnt Ende Februar mit dem Auftaktrennen auf Phillip Island in Australien.

"Es hat Spass gemacht, und ich freue mich schon auf nächstes Jahr, wenn wir das hoffentlich wiederholen können. Die Strecke ist cool und was das Wetter angeht, war es viel freundlicher als vor einer Woche auf Phillip Island. Mit dem zehnten Platz im ersten Rennen bin ich insgesamt zufrieden. Allerdings haben wir mit der Reifenwahl ein wenig gepokert. Schon nach ein paar Runden bekam ich Probleme, weil der Grip weg war und ich die verbleibende Distanz gut managen musste. Ich denke, P10 war das Maximum, das ich aus dieser Situation herausholen konnte. Ausserdem hatten wir das ganze Wochenende über mit Schwierigkeiten mit der Elektronik zu kämpfen, was uns ein wenig gebremst hat. Das war unter anderem der Grund, warum das Qualifying nicht so gut verlief. Trotzdem war es aus meiner Sicht ein schönes Wochenende, vor allem, weil in dieser Meisterschaft auch viele schnelle Jungs am Start sind und einige andere schnelle Fahrer nur für diese Veranstaltung gekommen sind."

"Die Konkurrenz war dieses Jahr viel stärker. Das hat auch Jack schon mehrfach bestätigt. Letztes Jahr wäre es viel einfacher gewesen, als Rookie unter die ersten fünf oder sechs zu kommen. In Anbetracht dieser Tatsachen war es kein Kinderspiel, in die Top 10 zu kommen. Deshalb fliege ich jetzt auch zufrieden nach Hause. Es ist schade, dass das zweite Rennen gleich nach dem Start vorbei war. Ich musste einem anderen Fahrer ausweichen und war deshalb sehr spät auf der Bremse. Mein erster Gedanke war, dass es vorbei ist und ich alle abräumen werde. Zum Glück konnte ich den grossen Crash vermeiden, aber leider habe ich einen anderen Fahrer berührt. Das ist wirklich sehr dumm gelaufen, weil wir beide gestürzt sind. Aber es war nur ein harmloser Umfaller, so dass wir beide das Rennen fortsetzen konnten, wenn auch in einer aussichtslosen Position. Mir tut es auch leid, aber ich wollte einfach nur reinhalten und am Start attackieren, um nach vorne zu kommen. Ansonsten war es ein mega-cooles Wochenende. Ein grosses Dankeschön an Jack und alle anderen, die dies möglich gemacht haben."

🇬🇧 Long racing season ends with top 10 in Australia

Marcel Schrötter therefore goes into his short winter break with a sense of achievement and a good feeling.

29-year-old Marcel Schrötter has ended a long season as a wildcard entry at the finale race of the Australian Superbike Championship this weekend. After his successful debut in Supersport World Championship a week ago at Phillip Island, Schrötter moved over to Adelaide at earlier this week, where he met up with his buddy Jack Miller and from there, they headed to the new circuit "The Bend Motorsports Park," about an hour's drive from Adelaide. The Australian MotoGP rider put together a team at short notice especially for the occasion.

With beautiful and stable weather throughout the weekend, it was no easy task for Schrötter to establish himself in the strong starting field right away. Added to this were problems with the electronics and a lack of track knowledge for the demanding, almost 5-kilometer-long circuit in the state of South Australia. On Sunday, however, the Bavarian fought his way up from 14th on the grid to tenth place in the first race. The second race was virtually over after a collision shortly after the start. Schrötter was able to continue and finish the race but was subsequently taken out of the classification.

After this detour into Superbike racing, Schrötter will now prepare for his next year's task with Italian team MV Agusta Reparto Corse in FIM Supersport World Championship. The season starts already at the end of February with the opening race at Phillip Island in Australia.

"It was fun, and I am looking forward to next year when hopefully we can do it again. The track is cool and as for the weather, it was much friendlier than a week ago at Phillip Island. Overall, I am happy with tenth place in race one. However, we played a bit of poker with the tyre choice. Already after a few laps I got problems because the grip was gone, and I had to manage the remaining distance well. I think P10 was the maximum I could get out of this situation. Also, we had difficulties with the electronics all weekend, which slowed us down a bit. That was one of the reasons why things did not go so well during qualifying. Still, it was a nice weekend from my point of view, especially because there are also a lot of fast guys competing in this championship and some other fast riders came just for this event."

"The competition was much stronger this year. Jack has already confirmed that several times. Last year it would have been much easier to finish in the top five or six as a rookie. Considering these facts, it was not a piece of cake to get into the top 10. That is why I am flying home satisfied now. It is a shame that the second race was over right after the start. I had to avoid another rider and was therefore very late on the brakes. My first thought was that it is over, and I will make a big disaster but fortunately, I was able to avoid the big crash, but unfortunately, I touched another rider. That really went very stupidly because we both fell. But it was just a harmless fall, so we both were able to continue the race, albeit in a hopeless position. I am sorry too, but I just wanted to stay in and attack at the start to get to the front. Otherwise, it was a mega-cool weekend. A big thank you to Jack and everyone else who made this possible."
