#WorldSSP 2023: Offizieller Test als letzte Vorbereitung auf die Saison
Things get serious for Marcel Schrötter in the next few days, when a two-day test opens the race week at the fast and flowing Phillip Island circuit just ahead of next weekend's Supersport World Championship opener.
Marcel Schrötter already got a taste of what awaits him in the middle category of WorldSBK series at the end of November last year. Back then, he took part as a wildcard rider with his new team MV Agusta Reparto Corse at the season finale of the Supersport World Championship at Phillip Island. After less than three months, the 30-year-old Bavarian is now returning to the small island, located a two hours' drive south of Melbourne, and he is eagerly awaiting the only official test on Monday and Tuesday of this week before the first race weekend.
Despite his good track knowledge at Phillip Island, Schrötter is effectively facing a fresh start at this circuit following his move to Supersport World Championship, where production-based race bikes are used. As well as working out a suitable set-up, the aim is to put the finishing touches to the start of the season so that he can continue to adapt to his new environment, including the MV Agusta machine and the still pretty unknown Pirelli tyres as well as the Supersport class. Schrötter and his crew travelled to Cartagena, Spain, at the end of January to carry out some functional tests with the new MV Agusta F3 800 RR and get himself back up to speed. Two sessions of just under two hours each are planned for the next two days to carry up preparations.
#23 Marcel SCHRÖTTER (MV Agusta Reparto Corse, MV Agusta F3 800 RR)
"I am very excited to start my new career chapter this week. The conditions could not be better in terms of the glorious summer weather. I have never experienced such a beautiful day as today at Phillip Island though, it is clear that it has nothing to do with racing, but it is also incredibly good to be able to enjoy this beautiful area in such conditions. The atmosphere cannot be compared to the one I remember from the many visits in October and November last year. But now all the attention is on the official test on the next two days."
"With two sessions of just under two hours each day, we have a relatively large amount of time to prepare as well as possible for the first race weekend as the weather prospects also looking good. So, we should be able to pull off our tight program. It will be important to do a lot of laps with the new to me bike and get to know it better, as well as the tyres and this category. Lap times and positions are secondary. The most important thing is to work on the set-up, which was hardly possible last November because of the changeable conditions. We have to succeed in working out a setting that suits me for the MV Agusta, because our test at the end of January in Cartagena was about completely different things."
