Der 30-jährige Deutsche spielte am Sonntag in Magny-Cours seine ganze Erfahrung aus und wurde nach einem gut eingeteilten Rennen Vierter.

Auch wenn es Marcel Schrötter nicht leicht fiel, sich mit diesem vierten Platz abzufinden, überwog am Ende die Freude, den dritten Platz in der Gesamtwertung weiter abgesichert zu haben. Von Platz acht aus der dritten Reihe gestartet, war es für den MV Agusta-Piloten kein Kinderspiel, die vor ihm gestarteten Gegner zu überholen. Doch Schrötter arbeitete sich Stück für Stück nach vorne, nachdem er zunächst eine Weile hinter seinem Hauptkonkurrenten in der Gesamtwertung, dem Italiener Federico Caricasulo, feststeckte und auch nicht immer auf Anhieb an den anderen Fahrern vorbeikam.

Den nächsten Versuch, wieder auf das Podium zu fahren, unternimmt Schrötter in zwei Wochen auf der spanischen Rennstrecke MotorLand Aragón.

"Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit meiner Leistung und dem heutigen Tag insgesamt. Wir haben versucht, uns bei der Abstimmung weiter zu verbessern, was teilweise gelungen ist. Nach dem Warm-up waren wir noch ein wenig verunsichert, weil die Bedingungen ganz anders waren als gestern Nachmittag oder zum Zeitpunkt des Rennens am Mittag. Durch die kühleren Temperaturen fühlt sich alles ein bisschen besser an. Wir hatten auch Probleme mit dem Hinterreifen, deshalb war es nicht so einfach, die Informationen zu filtern. Am Ende haben wir die Einstellungen übernommen, was sich im Rennen als Schritt nach vorne erwiesen hat."

"Aber von unserer Startposition aus verliert man in den ersten Runden viel Zeit, und in der aktuellen Situation war der vierte Platz das Maximum, was wir erreichen konnten. Alles in allem bin ich also zufrieden. Natürlich könnte es immer besser sein, aber viel mehr war diesmal nicht möglich. Wir haben uns gut geschlagen und sind wieder ein paar Plätze vor Caricasulo ins Ziel gekommen. Das ist im Moment das Wichtigste. Andererseits bin ich ein wenig enttäuscht, dass wir an diesem Wochenende nicht um das Podium kämpfen konnten. Deshalb hoffe ich, dass sich die Situation bald wieder ändert, damit wir wieder vorne mitfahren können."

The 30-year-old German rider played out all his experience on Sunday at Magny-Cours, finishing fourth after a well-paced race.

Even though it was not easy for Marcel Schrötter to come to terms with this fourth place, in the end the joy of having further consolidated third place in the overall standings prevailed. Starting from eighth spot on the third row, it was not an easy game for the MV Agusta rider to overtake the opponents who left the line in front of him. But Schrötter worked his way forward bit by bit after initially being stuck behind his main rival in the overall standings, Italian Federico Caricasulo, for a while and also not always getting past the other riders straight away.

Schrötter's next attempt to get back on the podium will be in two weeks' time at Spain's MotorLand Aragón circuit.

"I am very happy with my performance and today as a whole. We tried to improve further on the set-up, which was partially successful. After the warm-up session we were still a little unsettled because the conditions were very different from yesterday afternoon or at the time of the race at midday because cooler temperatures made everything feel a bit better. We also had problems with the rear tyre, so it was not so easy to filter the information correctly. In the end we adopted the settings, which proved to be a step forward in the race."

"But from our starting position you lose a lot of time in the first laps, and in the current situation, fourth place was the maximum we could achieve. So, all in all, I am satisfied. Of course, the outcome always could be better, but a lot more was not possible this time. We did well and finished a few places ahead of Caricasulo again. That is the most important thing at the moment. On the other hand, I am a bit disappointed that we could not fight for the podium this weekend. So, I hope that the situation will change again soon so that we can race at the front again."
