Nach einem erfreulichen freien Training fiel Marcel Schrötter in der wichtigen Superpole auf Platz 17 zurück. Das macht ihm das Leben für das erste Rennen in Cremona schwer.

Für den vierten Stopp der aktuellen FIM Supersport World Championship reiste der Tross diese Woche in die Lombardei in Norditalien. Ziel war der Cremona Circuit, der erst im vergangenen September seine Feuertaufe als WM-Strecke erlebte. An einem schönen Frühsommertag zum Start in das Wochenende stöhnten jedoch viele im Paddock über die unerwartet heissen Temperaturen und die hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit.

Bei Temperaturen, die am späten Vormittag bereits nur knapp unter 30 Grad lagen, begann die WM-Runde in Italien für Marcel Schrötter vielversprechend. Lange Zeit auf Platz zwei liegend, beendete der 32-jährige Ducati-Pilot die einzige freie Session auf P5, nur 0,4 Sekunden hinter der Bestzeit. In der Hoffnung, darauf aufbauen zu können, waren die Erwartungen für die Superpole, in der die Startaufstellung für das erste Rennen des Wochenendes ermittelt wird, entsprechend hoch.

Allerdings vermisste Schrötter am Nachmittag sofort das gute Gefühl für seine Rennmaschine von vorher, als die Temperaturen über die 30-Grad-Marke kletterten und damit alle Versuche einer erfolgreichen Zeitenjagd um einen vorderen Startplatz vergeblich waren. Seine Risikobereitschaft musste er mit einem Sturz bezahlen, der jedoch ohne Folgen blieb. So ist der 17. Platz in der sechsten Startreihe eine bescheidene Aussicht für das Rennen am Samstag in Cremona.

«Das freie Training am Morgen war ein sehr guter Start in das Wochenende für uns, wenn man bedenkt, dass vor zwei Wochen einige starke Leute hier auf dieser Strecke einen Test absolviert haben. Angesichts dieser Tatsache geht man mit einem mulmigen Gefühl in der Magengrube in die erste Session. Ausserdem bin ich die Ducati hier noch nie gefahren und ich musste also einen Rückstand aufholen. Aber ich muss sagen, dass ich mich von Anfang an sehr wohl gefühlt habe und es mir sehr leichtgefallen ist. Ich denke, das war offensichtlich, wie die Rundenzeit bestätigt. Es war keine grosse Sache und nichts war überhastet oder über dem Limit. Deshalb haben wir uns entschieden, die Session mit einem Reifen zu absolvieren. Wir benutzten den weichen Reifen, den viele andere erst am Ende benutzten, aber nicht viel mehr zulegen konnten. Auch nach drei Runs waren die Rundenzeiten noch brauchbar, obwohl die rechte Seite durch die wohl nicht so guten Streckenbedingungen schon sehr abgenutzt war.»

«Am Nachmittag war es leider erneut so, wie schon mehrmals in diesem Jahr, wenn die Temperaturen steigen. Heute war der Unterschied der Bedingungen zwischen FP und Superpole jedoch nicht so extrem. Trotzdem habe ich beim Rausfahren sofort gemerkt, dass ich ein anderes Motorrad habe. Ich hatte grosse Probleme, ich war eigentlich in jeder Kurve in Gefahr, zu stürzen. Es war unglaublich schwer zu fahren, weil ich viele Slides vorne hatte und sobald ich am Gasgriff drehte, drehte das Hinterrad. Es funktionierte überhaupt nicht mehr so wie drei oder vier Stunden zuvor. Es ist sehr frustrierend, dass wir damit nicht weiterkommen. Wir zeigen immer wieder unser Potenzial, und ich bin nach wie vor davon überzeugt, dass die Ducati ein Megamotorrad ist. Letztendlich müssen wir aber etwas ändern, wenn wir an der Spitze kämpfen wollen. Wir machen uns das Leben selbst schwer und ruinieren praktisch das Wochenende, wenn wir die Superpole vergeigen. Assen war ein Wochenende, an dem es nicht so heiss war, und es gab sofort einen Aufwärtstrend. Dennoch werden wir morgen und am Sonntag alles tun, um das Blatt zu wenden.»

EN: Hoping for a bit of cooling down

After an encouraging free practice session this morning, Marcel Schrötter dropped back to 17th place in the all-important Superpole. This makes life difficult for him for the first race in Cremona.

For round four of the current FIM Supersport World Championship, the entire paddock travelled to Lombardy in the north of Italy this week. Destination was the Cremona Circuit, which only experienced its baptism of fire as a world championship track last September. However, on a beautiful early summer's day at the start of the weekend, many in the paddock moaned about the unexpectedly hot temperatures and high humidity.

With temperatures already just below 30 degrees in the late morning, the World Championship round in Italy got off to a promising start for Marcel Schrötter. Lying in second place for a long time, the 32-year-old Ducati rider finished the only free practice session in P5, just 0.4 seconds behind the fastest lap time. Hoping to build on this, expectations for the Superpole, in which the starting grid for the first race of the weekend was determined, were correspondingly high.

However, in the afternoon, Schrötter immediately missed the good feeling for his bike from before, when temperatures climbed above the 30-degree mark and all attempts for a successfully time attack for a grid position towards the were in vain. He had to pay for his willingness to take risks with a crash, which, however, had no consequences. So, 17th place on the sixth row of the starting grid provides modest prospects for Saturday's race in Cremona.

«Free practice session in the morning was a very good start to the weekend for us, considering that two weeks ago some strong people had a test here at this track. In view of this fact, you go into the first session with a queasy feeling in the pit of your stomach. In addition, I have never ridden the Ducati here before, so I had a gap to make up. But I have to say that I felt very comfortable right from the start, and it was very easy for me. I think that was obvious, as the lap time confirms. It was not a big deal, and nothing was rushed or over the limit. That is why we decided to finish the session on one tyre. We used the softer onee, which many others only used at the end, but could not gain much more. Even after three runs, our lap times were still usable, although the right-hand side was already very worn due to the track’s conditions, which were probably not so good.»

«Unfortunately, it was the same again in the afternoon, as it has been several times this year when temperatures rise. Today, however, the difference in conditions between FP and Superpole was not so extreme. Nevertheless, I immediately noticed when I left the garage that I had a different bike. I had big problems; I was actually in danger of crashing in every corner. It was incredibly difficult to ride because I had a lot of slides at the front and as soon as I opened the throttle, the rear wheel started to spin. It did not work at all like it did three or four hours earlier. It is very frustrating that we are not able to make progress in this matter. We keep showing our potential from time to time, and I am still convinced that the Ducati is a mega bike. Ultimately, however, we have to change something if we want to fight at the front. We make life difficult for ourselves and practically ruin the weekend if we mess up Superpole so often. Assen was a weekend where it was not so hot and there was an immediate upward trend to see. Nevertheless, we will do everything we can tomorrow and on Sunday to turn the tide.»
