Marcel Schrötter hat sich im ersten Rennen von Cremona am Samstag mächtig ins Zeug gelegt, musste sich aber nach 20 Runden mit dem zehnten Platz begnügen.

Die Hoffnung auf eine leichte Abkühlung in der Lombardei nach den heissen Vortagen erfüllte sich am ersten Renntag der vierten Runde der aktuellen FIM Supersport World Championship. Ein bewölkter Himmel und eine gelegentliche leichte Brise machten die Belastung für die Akteure am Samstag erträglicher.

Für den 32-jährigen Marcel Schrötter fing der Tag denkbar schlecht an. Ein Sturz im Warm-up in seiner zweiten fliegenden Runde beendete die letzten Vorbereitungen für das Rennen abrupt. Glücklicherweise blieb auch dieser, wie schon gestern, ohne Folgen.

Nach der verpatzten Superpole musste Schrötter seine Ducati auf Platz 17 in der Startaufstellung stellen. Er kam jedoch gut von der Linie weg und machte in der ersten Runde eine Position gut. Sich über die restliche Distanz auf dem engen und winkeligen Cremona Circuit in die Top-Ten zu schieben, war für den erfahrenen Rennfahrer aus Oberbayern ein hartes Stück Arbeit.

Der vierte Stopp der Meisterschaft wird am Sonntag mit dem zweiten Rennen abgeschlossen.

«Es ist generell nicht gut, den Renntag mit einem Sturz zu beginnen, besonders in unserer schwierigen Situation, in der jede Runde zählt. Jeder Sturz wirkt sich auf das Selbstvertrauen aus, das nicht leicht wiederherzustellen ist. Gleichzeitig musste ich alles versuchen, um aus der sechsten Reihe aufzuholen, sobald die Startampel ausging. Doch wenn man sich nicht besonders gut fühlt, ist es immer eine heikle Aufgabe, Plätze gutzumachen. Daher denke ich, dass es ein solides Rennen war, in dem ich von Platz 17 auf zehn nach vorne fuhr.»

«Andererseits bin ich mit der Gesamtsituation weniger zufrieden. Wir sind uns unserer Schwachstellen sehr bewusst, an denen wir arbeiten und die wir hoffentlich bald verbessern werden. Ich bin sicher, dass wir um das Podium kämpfen werden, wenn wir uns in zwei Bereichen verbessern. Das Motorrad ist grossartig, aber leider nicht in der Situation, in der wir es momentan haben. Deshalb machen wir uns das Leben selbst schwer. Der zehnte Platz im heutigen Rennen ist natürlich weit von dem entfernt, was wir wollen. Dennoch bin ich in Anbetracht der Situation mit meiner Leistung zufrieden. Morgen werden wir wieder unser Bestes geben, um mehr zu erreichen.»

EN: Comeback in race ends with a top ten

Marcel Schrötter put in a great effort in Saturday’s Race 1 in Cremona but had to settle for tenth place after tough efforts during the 20 laps.

The hope of slightly cooling down in Italy’s Lombardy region after the hot previous days was fulfilled on the first race day of round four of the current FIM Supersport World Championship. A cloudy sky and an occasional light breeze made the strain more bearable for the riders on Saturday.

The day got off to the worst possible start for 32-year-old Marcel Schrötter. A crash in this morning’s warm-up on his second flying lap brought the final preparations for the race to an abrupt end. Fortunately, as was the case yesterday, there were no serious consequences.

After a botched Superpole on Friday afternoon, Schrötter had to put his Ducati on P17 of the starting grid. However, he got off the line well and made up a position on the first lap. Pushing himself into the top ten over the remaining distance at tight and twisty Cremona Circuit was hard work for the experienced racer from Upper Bavaria.

The fourth stop of the championship will be concluded on Sunday with the second race.

«It is generally not good to start race day with a crash, especially in our difficult situation where every lap counts. Every crash affects your confidence, which is not easy to regain, especially when at the same time, I had to try everything to catch up from sixth row as soon as the lights went out. But when you are not feeling particularly good, it is always a tricky task to make up positions. So, I think it was a solid race to move up from 17th to tenth at the finish line.»

«On the other hand, I am less satisfied with the overall situation. We are very aware of our weak points, which we are working on and which we will hopefully improve soon. I am sure that we will fight for the podium if we improve in two areas. The bike is great, but unfortunately not in the situation we have it at the moment. That is why we are making life difficult for ourselves. Tenth place in today's race is of course far from what we want. Nevertheless, given the situation, I am satisfied with my performance today. Tomorrow we will do our best again to achieve more.»
