Marcel Schrötter konnte seinen Heim-Grand-Prix bereits am ersten Trainingstag auf dem Sachsenring in vollen Zügen genießen. Aber auch aus sportlicher Sicht ist ihm der Start ins Wochenende gelungen.

Der 31-jährige Marcel Schrötter macht an seinem zweiten Wochenende als Ersatz für den verletzten Deniz Öncü im Red Bull KTM Ajo Team gute Fortschritte. Obwohl er beide Sessions des Tages knapp ausserhalb der Top 20 auf Platz 21 beendete, wird der Abstand zur Spitze immer kleiner. Der Rückstand auf die Bestzeit betrug am Ende des Tages 1,2 Sekunden, und als 14. fehlte ihm gerade einmal eine halbe Sekunde, um sich in eine Position für den direkten Einzug ins Q2 zu bringen.

Am Samstagvormittag werden mit dem zweiten Zeittraining die Starterlisten für Q1 und Q2 ermittelt.

"Der erste Tag hier auf dem Sachsenring endete schneller, als mir lieb war. Ich bin glücklich, hier zu sein, es ist ein sehr schönes Gefühl. Zum Glück hat das Wetter mitgespielt, auch wenn es nicht ganz ideal war. Aber das Wichtigste war, dass es den ganzen Tag über trocken blieb. Um ehrlich zu sein, hätte ich mir einen etwas leichteren Start erhofft. Aber selbst mit den Pirelli-Reifen ist der Grip auf dieser Strecke nicht der beste. In dieser Hinsicht hätte ich etwas mehr erwartet. Deshalb hatte ich ein bisschen mehr Mühe."

"Trotzdem haben wir insgesamt gute Fortschritte gemacht. In der Nachmittagssitzung lag ich lange Zeit auf P15 und hatte am Ende nicht den Reifen, der der bessere war. Aber wir haben gezeigt, dass wir aufholen und immer näher herankommen. Jetzt geht es nur noch um ein paar Zehntelsekunden, und wir sind im Kampf um die Top 14 dabei. Das heisst, wir müssen konzentriert bleiben und Stück für Stück so weitermachen. Dann hoffe ich, dass wir morgen einen weiteren Schritt nach vorne machen können."

On day one of practice at Sachsenring, Marcel Schrötter was able to enjoy his home Grand Prix to the full already. But he also had a successful start to the weekend from a sporting perspective.

31-year-old Marcel Schrötter is making good progress on his second weekend as substitute rider for the injured Deniz Öncü in Red Bull KTM Ajo. Although he finished both sessions of the day just outside the top 20 in 21st place, the gap to the top is getting smaller and smaller. The gap to the fastest lap time at the end of the day was 1.2 seconds, and in 14th place he was just half a second short of putting himself in a position for direct entry into Q2.

On Saturday morning, Practice 2 will determine the entry lists for Q1 and Q2.

"The first day here at the Sachsenring came to a quicker end than I would have liked. I am happy to be here, it is a very nice feeling. Fortunately, the weather cooperated, even if it was not quite ideal. But the most important thing was that it remained dry all day. To be honest, I would have hoped for a slightly easier start. But even with the Pirelli tyres, the grip at this track is not the best. I would have expected a bit more in this respect. That is why I struggled a bit more."

"Nevertheless, we made good progress overall. In the afternoon session, I was in P15 for a long time and did not have the better tyre at the end. But we showed that we are catching up and getting closer and closer. Now it is just a matter of a few tenths of a second and we are in the fight for the top 14. That means we have to stay focused and continue like this bit by bit. Then I hope that we can take another step forward tomorrow."
