Beim Saisonfinale der FIM Supersport World Championship 2024 auf dem bestens bekannten Circuito de Jerez in Südspanien hat Marcel Schrötter nach einer durchwachsenen Saison noch eine reelle Chance auf den vierten Gesamtrang.

Nur wenige Tage nach dem vorletzten Lauf der Serie in Estoril, Portugal, biegt die aktuelle Meisterschaft auf die Zielgerade ein. Wie im vergangenen Jahr wird das Saisonfinale wieder auf dem Circuito de Jerez ausgetragen, nicht weit von der gleichnamigen andalusischen Stadt, aus der der berühmte Sherry-Wein stammt.

Marcel Schrötter hat an diesem Wochenende keine Zeit für Sightseeing oder andere kulturelle Aktivitäten, denn der 31-jährige Rennfahrer aus Oberbayern will die Saison 2024 stilvoll beenden, nachdem er in diesem Jahr nicht oft die Möglichkeit hatte, in der Spitzengruppe zu kämpfen.

"Die Saison neigt sich dem Ende zu, und das mit sehr gemischten Gefühlen. Es überwiegt ein wenig die Enttäuschung, wie die Dinge im Moment laufen oder wie diese Saison im Allgemeinen verlaufen ist. Nachdem wir letztes Jahr in meinem Rookie-Jahr in der Supersport-Weltmeisterschaft eine sehr schöne Saison hatten, tut es mir sehr leid für mich, für alle Sponsoren und für alle, die immer hinter mir gestanden haben. Nach der Bronzemedaille für den dritten Platz in der Gesamtwertung war das Ziel für 2024, das zu toppen. Es hätte nur besser werden müssen, denn wir hatten auch gute Ideen, um das Motorrad zu verbessern. Aber irgendwie hat die Konkurrenz grössere Schritte gemacht, was durchaus passiert ist, während wir oft nur ähnliche oder gleiche Zeiten wie im letzten Jahr gefahren sind. Ausserdem sind im Laufe der Saison einige Dinge passiert, die nicht hätten passieren dürfen."

"Alles in allem ist es einfach sehr enttäuschend, denn am Ende schaut jeder nur auf meine Ergebnisse und die lagen manchmal weit unter meinem Wert. Das tut wirklich weh, und es ist nicht einfach zu erklären, wie es dazu kam. Ich hoffe deshalb, dass wir die Saison noch anständig zu Ende bringen können, denn wir befinden uns derzeit in einer schwierigen Situation mit unserem Motor. Wir haben noch zwei Rennen, in denen es nur noch um den fünften Platz in der Gesamtwertung geht, obwohl der vierte Gesamtrang noch in Reichweite ist. Aber darüber will ich nicht zu viel spekulieren, sondern mit dem, was ich derzeit zur Verfügung habe, ein weiteres solides Wochenende abliefern."

EN: The goal for Jerez: to bring the season to a decent end

At the season’s finale of the 2024 FIM Supersport World Championship at the well-known Circuito de Jerez in southern Spain this weekend, Marcel Schrötter still has a real chance of finishing fourth overall after a mixed season.

Just a few days after the second-last round of the series in Estoril, Portugal, the current championship enters the home straight. Like last year, the finale will once again be held at the Circuito de Jerez, not far from the Andalusian city of the same name, where the famous sherry wine comes from.

Marcel Schrötter has no time for sightseeing or other cultural activities this weekend, because the 31-year-old racer from Upper Bavaria wants to finish the 2024 season in style after not often having the opportunity to fight in the front group this year.

"The season is drawing to a close, and with very mixed feelings. There is a bit of disappointment about how things are going at the moment or how this season has gone in general. After we had a very good season last year as a rookie in Supersport World Championship, I feel very sorry for myself, for all the sponsors and for everyone who has always been behind me. After the bronze medal for third place in the overall standings, the goal for 2024 was to top that. It should only have been better, because we also had good ideas to improve the bike. But somehow the competition made bigger steps, which definitely happened, while we often only set similar or the same last times as last year. In addition, some things happened during the season that should not have happened."

"All in all, it is just very disappointing, because in the end everyone only looks at my results and they were sometimes far below my value. That really hurts and it is not easy to explain how it came about. I therefore hope that we can still finish the season decently, because we are currently in a difficult situation with our engine. We still have two races left in which only fifth place in the overall standings is at stake, although fourth place overall is still within reach. But I don't want to speculate too much about that, I want to deliver another solid weekend with what I have available at the moment."
