Ein Regenschauer am Sonntagnachmittag kostete Marcel Schrötter bei seinem «Fast» Heimrennen in Assen, nur einen Steinwurf von der deutschen Grenze entfernt, wie schon am Vortag das erhoffte Spitzenergebnis.

Die 2024er WM-Runde in Assen wird vielen noch lange in Erinnerung bleiben, denn das Wetter hätte nicht schlechter sein können, so oft wechselte es. Am Sonntagmorgen herrschte bei viel Sonnenschein, aber sehr frischen drei Grad, Zuversicht auf einen trockenen Renntag. Bis zum Start des Supersport-Rennens um 15:15 Uhr blieb es trocken, auch wenn ab Mittag Wolken aufzogen. Praktisch zeitgleich mit dem Ausgehen der Startampel setzte der Regen ein.

Das gesamte Starterfeld ging unvorbereitet mit Slicks in das Rennen. Ein Umstand, mit dem Schrötter bereits in den nassen Abschnitten im Rennen am Samstag zu kämpfen hatte. Der MV Agusta-Pilot kam nach der zweiten Runde zum Reifenwechsel an die Box und absolvierte anschliessend ein ambitioniertes Rennen. Dabei gelang ihm eine deutliche Verbesserung gegenüber dem gestrigen Rennen.

Bis zur nächsten Veranstaltung in Misano Mitte Juni wird es eine weitere lange Pause in der Meisterschaft geben.

"Es war ein weiteres Rennen, das ich mir so nicht gewünscht hatte, denn ich war voll und ganz auf ein Trockenrennen eingestellt. Aber dann fingen die ersten Regentropfen an zu fallen, als wir in der Startaufstellung waren, und selbst in der Aufwärmrunde war es im ersten Sektor nicht so schlimm. Beim Start tröpfelte es ein bisschen mehr. Doch als wir an der ersten Kurve ankamen, war es dort bereits komplett nass war. Von da an begann das Chaos und ich fand mich in meiner Situation wieder; mit Slicks im Nassen ist es einfach schrecklich für mich. Ich tat mir unglaublich schwer und habe viel Zeit verloren. Aber da es in der ersten Runden nur im ersten Sektor nass war und der Rest der Strecke noch in Ordnung war, wollte ich nicht gleich zum Reifenwechsel an die Box kommen. Es hätte ja auch nur ein kurzer Schauer sein können, und 18 Runden sind ein langes Rennen. Am Ende wurde der Regen immer stärker, und die ganze Strecke war nass. Deshalb bin ich nach der zweiten Runde reingekommen, wo auch die meisten anderen ihren Stopp gemacht haben. Trotzdem habe ich vorher zu viel Zeit verloren, was Punkt eins ist, und unser Boxenstopp war einen Tick zu lang. Es gibt diese Mindestzeit, die man einhalten muss, aber als ich wieder losgefahren bin, war der Countdown schon um gut 10 Sekunden abgelaufen. Das sind die beiden Punkte, die im Rennen nicht optimal waren."

"Abgesehen davon bin ich mit meiner Leistung zufrieden, was das Fahren mit Regenreifen im Nassen angeht. Das war bisher nicht unsere Stärke und wir müssen uns bei solchen Bedingungen unbedingt verbessern. Das war sehr deutlich zu sehen, als Montella mich überholte und dann schneller war als ich. Aber verglichen mit dem Rest und den Rundenzeiten, die ich um vier Sekunden verbessern konnte, habe ich insgesamt gute Fortschritte gemacht. Das ist auf jeden Fall positiv. Der neunte Platz ist sicherlich nicht das, was wir wollen. Aber Assen war diesmal ein besonders schwieriges und zugleich verrücktes Wochenende, denn wir fahren mit einem geringeren Rückstand auf den Führenden in der Gesamtwertung als zuvor nach Hause, auch wenn wir einen Platz zurückgerutscht sind. Trotzdem sind wir voll im Kampf um die Meisterschaft dabei. Wir werden das Wochenende analysieren und müssen daraus lernen. Es hätte auch anders ausgehen können und natürlich wäre ich gerne wieder auf dem Podium gelandet. Die anstehende Pause wäre aus meiner Sicht nicht nötig, denn ich würde es vorziehen, wenn es sofort weitergeht. Umso mehr freue ich mich schon auf Misano, hoffentlich mit stabileren Bedingungen und schönerem Wetter."

EN: Top 10 in yet another chaotic race

A rain shower on Sunday afternoon cost Marcel Schrötter the top result he had hoped for at his "almost" home race in Assen, just a stone's throw from the German border, just as it was had the day before.

The 2024 World Championship round in Assen will be remembered by many for a long time to come, because the weather could not have been worse, as it changed so often. On Sunday morning, with plenty of sunshine but a very chilly three degrees, there was confidence of a dry race day. It remained dry until the start of  Supersport race at 03:15pm, even though clouds started to gather from midday. The rain started practically at the same time as the lights went out.

The entire grid went into the race unprepared with slicks. A circumstance that Schrötter had already struggled with in the wet sections of Saturday's race. The MV Agusta rider came into the pits to change tyres after the second lap and then completed an ambitious race. In doing so, he managed a significant improvement compared to yesterday's race.

There will be another long break in the championship until the next event in Misano mid of June.

"It was another race that I had not hoped for, because I was fully prepared for a dry race. But then the first raindrops started to fall as we lined up on the starting grid, and even on the warm-up lap it was not that bad in the first sector. It was drizzling a bit more at the start. But when we got to the first corner, it was already completely wet there. From then on, the chaos started, and I found myself in my situation; it's just terrible for me with slicks in the wet. I found it incredibly difficult and lost a lot of time. But as it was only wet in the first sector on the first lap and the rest of the track was still okay, I did not want to come into the pits to change tyres straight away. It could have been just a short shower, and 18 laps is a long race. In the end, the rain got heavier and heavier and the whole track was wet. That is why I came in after the second lap, where most of the others also made their stop. Nevertheless, I lost too much time beforehand, which is point one, and our pit stop was a tad too long. There is this minimum time that you have to adhere to, but when I set off again, the countdown had already run out by a good 10 seconds. Those are the two points that were not ideal in the race."

"Apart from that, I am happy with my performance in terms of riding with rain tyres in the wet. That has not been our strength so far and we definitely need to improve in such conditions. That was very clear to see when Montella passed me and was then faster than me. But compared to the rest and the lap times, which I was able to improve by four seconds, I made good progress overall. That is definitely positive. Ninth place is certainly not what we want. But Assen was a particularly difficult and at the same time crazy weekend this time, because we are going home with a smaller gap to the leader in the overall standings than before, even though we have slipped back one position. Nevertheless, we are fully in the fight for the championship. We will analyze the weekend and have to learn from it. It could have turned out differently and of course I would have liked to finish on the podium again. The upcoming break would not be necessary from my point of view, because I would prefer to continue immediately. I am all the more looking forward to Misano, hopefully with more stable conditions and nicer weather."
