Die Qualifikation für Q2 wäre für Marcel Schrötter am Samstag auf dem Sachsenring vor den begeisterten heimischen Fans ein schöner Erfolg gewesen.

Marcel Schrötter zeigt bei seinem zweiten Einsatz als Ersatz für den verletzten Deniz Öncü im Red Bull KTM Ajo Team sehr ordentliche Leistungen. Kontinuierliche Verbesserungen und mehr Vertrauen in das Gesamtpaket lassen den Abstand zur Weltelite in der wohl am härtesten umkämpften Kategorie im Motorradsport schmelzen.

Im zweiten Zeittraining am frühen Morgen klopfte Schrötter bereits an die Tür der Top 14, was ihm den direkten Einzug ins Q2 beschert hätte. Nachdem er seine Rundenzeit im Vergleich zum Freitag um eine halbe Sekunde verbessert hatte, beendete er die Session auf Platz 21, nur 0,8 Sekunden hinter der Bestzeit der kombinierten Zeitenliste. In Q1 konnte er sich bei Temperaturen nahe der 30-Grad-Marke sofort wieder minimal verbessern und lag damit bis zur heissen Schlussphase der 15-minütigen Session unter den ersten Vier, was den Einzug in die Zeitenjagd um die besten Startplätze über den Q1-Umweg bedeutet hätte. Leider konnte Schrötter den zusätzlichen Grip des neuen Reifens nach dem Boxenstopp nicht optimal nutzen und haderte auch ein wenig mit dem Timing, da er das schnelle Hinterrad seines Teamkollegen Celestino Vietti, der letztlich zur Pole Position stürmte, nicht finden konnte.

Wie am vergangenen Sonntag in Assen wird Schrötter wieder von Startplatz 22 aus der achten Reihe ins Rennen gehen. Startzeit ist 12:10 Uhr. Im deutschsprachigen Raum gibt es am Sonntag ein umfangreiches TV- und Streaming-Angebot. In Österreich sind ServusTV und «ServusTV On» ab 10:20 Uhr auf Sendung. In Deutschland geht Sky Sport ebenfalls um 10:20 Uhr auf Sendung sowie auch die Rennen auf der Streaming-Plattform «ServusTV On» zu sehen sind.

Q1: P8 – 1´23.506 +0.395 / Startplatz 22

"Es ist erfreulich, dass wir wieder einen guten Schritt nach vorne gemacht haben. Dennoch bin ich ein wenig enttäuscht, dass wir es nicht ins Q2 geschafft haben. Das wäre ein kleines Highlight und gleichzeitig ein grosser Erfolg für uns in unserer Situation gewesen. Wir waren auch lange Zeit auf dem vierten Platz, aber leider konnte ich meine Zeit auf dem zweiten Reifen nur wiederholen und nicht verbessern. Obwohl ich meine Zeiten allein gefahren bin, überwiegt ein wenig die Enttäuschung, denn am Ende fehlten mir nur zwei Zehntel, um es ins Q2 zu schaffen. Es ist, wie es ist, und ich hoffe, dass wir uns für morgen noch weiter verbessern können. Es wird ein ganz besonderes Rennen, ganz anders als in Assen. Mit einem guten Start können wir auf jeden Fall um ein gutes Ergebnis kämpfen."

EN: Narrowly missing a little sensation

Racing in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Sachsenring circuit, it would have been more than a nice success for Marcel Schrötter to make it through Q2 on Saturday.

Marcel Schrötter is showing a very decent performance in his second outing as a replacement for injured Deniz Öncü in Red Bull KTM Ajo. Continuous improvements and more confidence with the overall package are narrowing the gap to the world’s elite in what is probably the most fiercely contested category in two-wheels racing.

During Practice 2 early this morning, Schrötter was already knocking on the door of the top 14, which would have given him direct entry into Q2. After improving his lap time by half a second compared to Friday, however, he finished the session in P21, just 0.8 seconds off the fastest lap time in the combined timesheet. In Q1, he was immediately able to improve minimally again in temperatures close to the 30-degree mark and was thus in the top four until the hot final stages of the 15-minute session, which would have meant entering the time hunt for the best grid positions via the Q1 detour. Unfortunately, Schrötter was unable to make best use of the extra grip from the new tyre after his pit stop and also struggled a bit with timing, as he was unable to find the fast rear of his team mate Celestino Vietti, who ultimately stormed to pole position.

Like last Sunday in Assen, Schrötter will again start the race from P22 on the starting grid on eighth row. Starting time is at 12:10pm. There will be an extensive TV and streaming offer in German-speaking countries on Sunday. In Austria, ServusTV and "ServusTV On" will be on air from 10:20 am. In Germany, Sky Sport will also be on air at 10:20 a.m. and the races can also be seen on the streaming platform "ServusTV On".

"It is pleasing that we have made another good step forward. Nevertheless, I am a bit disappointed that we did not make it into Q2. That would have been a small highlight and at the same time a great success for us in our situation. We were in fourth place for a long time, but unfortunately, I was only able to match my time with the second tyre and not improve it. Although I did my times alone, the disappointment outweighs a bit because in the end I was only two tenths short of making it into Q2. It is what it is, and I hope that we can improve even more tomorrow. It will be a very special race, very different to Assen. With a good start, we can definitely fight for a good result."
