Marcel Schrötter erlebte beim achten Stopp der FIM Supersport World Championship in Frankreich ein turbulentes Wochenende, das er sich so nicht vorgestellt hatte.

Die WM-Runde auf dem Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours im französischen Burgund war für den 31-jährigen Marcel Schrötter praktisch von Anfang bis Ende eine Enttäuschung. Ein technischer Defekt am Freitagmorgen kam für die Vorbereitungen zur Superpole, die über die Startaufstellung entscheidet, zum denkbar ungünstigsten Zeitpunkt. Schrötter landete auf dem neunten Startplatz, kassierte aber eine Strafe, die ihn in die vierte Reihe zurückwarf.

Wegen sintflutartiger Regenfälle am Samstagnachmittag konnte das erste Rennen nicht stattfinden und wurde auf Sonntagmorgen über eine auf zwölf Runden verkürzte Distanz verschoben. Obwohl der Regen längst aufgehört hatte, war die Strecke heute Morgen noch stellenweise nass. Das Rennen wurde unter Mischbedingungen gestartet, mit denen Schrötter immer zu kämpfen hat. Eine ungewöhnliche Reifenwahl trug dazu bei, dass er nicht über Platz 17 hinauskam.

Der MV Agusta-Pilot musste das zweite Rennen am Nachmittag von Platz 14 aus der fünften Reihe starten und hatte erneut mit seiner Reifenwahl zu kämpfen. Mit dem zehnten Platz sammelte er immerhin weitere Punkte für die Meisterschaft und verteidigte seinen aktuellen fünften Gesamtrang in der Punktetabelle.

Die nächste Runde der Weltmeisterschaft wird am Wochenende vom 20. bis 22. September auf der Rennstrecke von Cremona in Norditalien ausgetragen.

"Leider verlief Magny-Cours nicht nach unseren Erwartungen. Ich bin enttäuscht, dass ein weiteres Wochenende schiefgelaufen ist. Die Misere begann am Freitag im freien Training mit dem Motorschaden, der ein grosser Rückschlag war. In dieser Kategorie wirkt sich das Versäumen einer Session doppelt negativ aus. Umso mehr, wenn es danach direkt in die Superpole geht. Der neunte Startplatz in der dritten Reihe wäre Schadensbegrenzung gewesen, doch dann gab es eine Strafe mit der Rückversetzung von drei Plätzen. Hinzu kamen heute Morgen die Wetterbedingungen mit einer schwierigen Reifenwahl: Regenreifen vorne und Slick hinten. Das Ergebnis dieser Entscheidung war nicht Fisch und nicht Fleisch, denn am Anfang konnte ich den Vorderreifen auf der noch nassen Strecke nicht nutzen, und später, als die Strecke immer mehr abtrocknete, konnte ich den Hinterreifen nicht nutzen. Deshalb habe ich mich sehr schwergetan, es war ein komplettes Desaster. Nachdem ich jedoch diese Enttäuschung hinter mir gelassen hatte, erhoffte ich mir für das zweite Rennen am Nachmittag mehr."

"Bis zum Start des zweiten Rennens wurde es immer wärmer, also war es ziemlich klar, dass wir mit den weichen Reifen fahren würden. Aber während des Rennens zogen Wolken auf und es tröpfelte sogar zeitweise. Es kühlte auch ein bisschen ab, was mir mit dem weichen Reifen nicht in die Hände spielte. Zwei, drei Runden lang war es okay, aber ab etwa der fünften Runde bin ich nur noch gerutscht und konnte den Reifen nicht mehr richtig nutzen. Gut zwei Drittel des Rennens hatte ich null Grip und der Reifen selbst ging kaputt. Es war extrem schwierig, das Motorrad zu kontrollieren. Deshalb war nicht mehr möglich, obwohl ich wie in jedem anderen Rennen gepusht habe, als ob es um ein Podium ginge. Aber ich konnte einfach nicht mehr schneller fahren. Das ist ein Zeichen dafür, dass es im Moment nicht rund läuft. Es tut mir leid und ich möchte mich bei allen Fans und vor allem bei den Sponsoren entschuldigen, die viel mehr erwartet haben. Vor allem nach dem, was wir im letzten Jahr erreicht haben. Ich hoffe, dass wir in den verbleibenden Rennen die Kurve kriegen, damit wir wenigstens wieder ein paar anständige Ergebnisse einfahren können, denn ich möchte diese Saison ordentlich beenden."

EN: Magny-Cours not worth the trip this time

Marcel Schrötter experienced a turbulent weekend at the eighth stop of the 2024 FIM Supersport World Championship in France, which he had not imagined.

The series’ visit to the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in Burgundy, France, was a disappointment for 31-year-old Marcel Schrötter practically from the beginning to the end. A technical defect on Friday morning came at the worst possible time for the preparations for Superpole, which decides the starting grid. Schrötter ended up in ninth place on the grid but picked up a penalty that dropped him back to the fourth row.

Due to torrential rain on Saturday afternoon, the first race could not take place and was postponed to Sunday morning for a distance shortened to twelve laps. Although the rain had since long stopped, the track was still wet in places this morning. The race was started in mixed conditions, which Schrötter always struggles with. An unusual tyre choice contributed to the fact that he was unable to finish higher than 17th.

The MV Agusta rider had to start the second race in the afternoon from 14th place on the fifth row and once again Schrötter struggled with his tyre choice. With tenth place, he at least collected more points for the championship and defended his current fifth place overall in the points table.

The next round of the World Championship will be held on the weekend of September 20-22 at the Cremona circuit in northern Italy.

"Unfortunately, Magny-Cours did not go according to our expectations. I am disappointed that another weekend has gone wrong. The misery began on Friday in free practice with the engine failure, which was a major setback. In this category, missing a session has a doubly negative effect. All the more so when it goes straight into Superpole afterwards. Ninth place on the grid on the third row would have been damage limitation, but then there was a penalty with a demotion of three places. Added to this were the weather conditions this morning with a difficult choice of tyres: A rain tyre at the front and slick at the rear. The result of this decision was not fish and fowl, because at the beginning I could not use the front tyre at the still wet track, and later, as the track dried out more and more, I could not benefit from the rear slick. So, I struggled a lot, it was a complete disaster. However, once I had put this disappointment behind me, I was hoping for more in the second race in the afternoon."

"By the start of the second race, it was getting warmer and warmer, so it was pretty clear that we would race with the soft tyre. But during the race, clouds over casted the area and it even drizzled at times. Also, temperatures dropped down a bit, which did not play into my hands with the soft tyre. It was okay for two or three laps, but from about the fifth lap onwards I was just sliding and could not use the tyre properly. I had zero grip for a good two thirds of the race and the tyre itself got completely damaged. It was extremely difficult to control the bike. That is why it was no longer possible, even though I pushed like in every other race as if it were a podium. But I just could not go any faster. That is a sign that things are not going well at the moment. I am sorry and I would like to apologize to all the fans and especially to the sponsors, who expected much more. Especially after what we achieved last year. I hope that we can get our act together in the remaining races so that we can at least get some decent results again, because I want to end this season properly."
