Marcel Schrötter sah die Zielflagge im Rennen am Sonntag bei der TT Assen in den Niederlanden nach einer soliden Leistung auf Platz 18.

Der 31-jährige Marcel Schrötter kann mit seinem ersten Rennwochenende als Ersatz für den verletzten Deniz Öncü im Red Bull KTM Ajo Team zufrieden sein, denn er und seine Crew konnten am Renntag an die Verbesserungen vom Vortag anknüpfen. Nach einigen aggressiven Zweikämpfen mit einigen seiner Konkurrenten fand Schrötter einen guten Rhythmus und fuhr über die restliche Distanz auf dem TT Circuit von Assen sehr konstante Rundenzeiten.

Die Meisterschaft geht am kommenden Wochenende mit dem Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland auf dem legendären Sachsenring in die nächste Runde, wo Schrötter wieder mit dem Weltmeisterteam der letzten drei Jahre arbeiten wird.

"Was das Ergebnis angeht, war es nichts Besonderes. Dennoch denke ich, dass ich ein solides Rennen abgeliefert habe. Die Pace war auf jeden Fall okay, etwa so wie die Fahrer auf den letzten Plätzen in den Punkten. Das Problem waren einfach die ersten paar Runden, denn wenn man weiter hinten im Feld startet, tun sich sofort große Lücken auf. Hinzu kam, dass ein oder zwei andere Fahrer es sehr ernst nahmen mit ihrer Absicht, keinen Ersatzfahrer vor sich haben zu wollen. Dementsprechend hart waren die Positionskämpfe am Anfang. Obwohl ich deutlich schneller war als ein oder zwei der anderen, tat sich nach zwei oder drei Runden eine Lücke auf, und ich hatte einfach nicht die Pace, um die Gruppe einzuholen. Ich konnte zwar die Lücke zu Guevara schliessen und ihn überholen, aber das war heute das Maximum."

"Im Großen und Ganzen war es dennoch ein solider Einstand, denn wie ich schon mehrfach erwähnt habe, ist es verdammt schwer, in diese Kategorie zurückzukommen. Das Niveau in der Moto2 ist unheimlich hoch. Aber wir haben keine Fehler gemacht und konnten gute Informationen sammeln, die sowohl dem Team als auch KALEX helfen. Es hat mir auf jeden Fall Spass gemacht und ich freue mich noch mehr auf die nächste Woche auf dem Sachsenring. Dort werden die Dinge von Anfang an ein wenig anders aussehen."

After a solid performance, Marcel Schrötter saw the chequered flag in Sunday's race at the TT Assen in the Netherlands in 18th place.

31-year-old Marcel Schrötter can be satisfied with his first race weekend as a replacement for injured Deniz Öncü in Red Bull KTM Ajo, as he and his crew were able to build on Saturday’s improvements on race day either. After some aggressive battles for positions with some of his rivals, Schrötter found a good rhythm and set very consistent lap times over the remaining distance at the famous TT Circuit of Assen.

The championship enters the next round already in a few days with the Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland at the legendary Sachsenring, where Schrötter will once again be working with the world champion winning team of the last three years.

"In terms of the result, it was nothing special. Nevertheless, I think I delivered a solid race today. The pace was definitely okay, about the same as the riders in the last points positions. The problem was simply the first few laps, because when you start further back on the grid, big gaps open up immediately. In addition, one or two other riders were very serious about not wanting to have a substitute rider in front of them. So, the battles for positions were correspondingly tough at the start. Although I was clearly faster than the one or other, a gap opened up after two or three laps and I simply didn't have the pace to catch up with the group. I was able to close the gap to Guevara and overtake him, but that was the maximum today."

"All in all, it was still a solid debut, because as I've already mentioned several times, it's damn hard to get back into this category. The level in Moto2 is incredibly high. But we didn't make any mistakes and were able to gather good information that will help both the team and KALEX. I definitely enjoyed it and I'm looking forward even more to next week riding at the Sachsenring. Things will look a little different there from the start."
