Marcel Schrötter will das für ihn besondere Rennwochenende in der «Cathedrale of Speed» in vollen Zügen geniessen, wo er nicht nur auf die Unterstützung vieler deutscher Fans zählen kann.

Nach einem dritten Platz im ersten Rennen der neuen Saison Ende Februar auf Phillip Island in Südaustralien konnte Marcel Schrötter beim zweiten Meeting der FIM Supersport World Championship 2025 in Portimao vor eineinhalb Wochen zwar wichtige Punkte für die Meisterschaft sammeln, in den Kampf um einen Podestplatz konnte er aber nicht eingreifen. Es fehlte aber nicht viel dazu.

Das will der ambitionierte Rennfahrer aus Oberbayern ändern, wenn die Serie an diesem Wochenende auf dem legendären TT Circuit von Assen im Norden der Niederlande gastiert. Der 32-jährige Schrötter fährt gerne in Assen und konnte auf dem ultraflüssigen Kurs schon einige Highlights setzen, wenn auch nicht vor einem Jahr, als das Wetter bitterkalt und regnerisch war.

Die 4,5 Kilometer lange Strecke hat einen einzigartigen Charakter, da die meisten Kurven sehr schnell und flüssig sind. Assen hat auch eine sehr lange Geschichte im Motorradrennsport und seine Nähe zur deutschen Grenze zieht jedes Mal viele Fans aus dem Heimatland von Marcel Schrötter an.

Auch an diesem Wochenende erwartet alle Fans wieder eine geballte Ladung Motorradsport. Grund dafür ist die Terminüberschneidung mit dem Grand Prix of Qatar. Live-Übertragungen der Supersport-Rennen im frei empfangbaren Fernsehen sind auf «ServusTV» und Eurosport geplant. Alternativ wird es wie gewohnt Live-Streams auf digitalen Plattformen wie dem Online-Portal des österreichischen Senders «ServusTV On», dem «Eurosport Player» und auf der offiziellen WorldSBK-Website geben, wo alle Sessions des Wochenendes live übertragen werden. Letztere ist allerdings kostenpflichtig und verfügt über einen englischen Kommentar.

«Wenn ich an Assen im letzten Jahr zurückdenke, werde ich immer noch ein wenig verärgert, denn das wechselhafte Wetter hat dazu geführt, dass es gar nicht nach meinen Vorstellungen gelaufen ist. Aber die Prognosen für dieses Wochenende sind viel ermutigender. Bis jetzt sieht es so aus, als ob das Wetter gut und die Bedingungen stabil sein werden. Es ist klar, dass es zu dieser Jahreszeit in Assen nicht sehr warm sein wird. Aber ich bin schon froh, wenn das Wetter stabil und trocken ist und die Sessions nicht von einsetzenden Regen beeinträchtigt werden oder es sogar ein bisschen schneit. Abgesehen davon freue ich mich sehr auf Assen. Assen ist wegen der Nähe zu Deutschland immer ein besonderer Event, weil die Rennen viele deutsche Fans anziehen. Obwohl ich es nicht als Heimrennen bezeichnen würde, weil es doch ein wenig zu weit weg ist, macht es in Assen immer viel Spass, dort zu sein.»

«Was die sportliche Seite betrifft, so hoffe ich, dass wir uns verbessern können. In Portimao waren wir nicht weit weg, auch wenn die Ergebnisse enttäuschend waren. Aber die Abstände zum Podium waren nicht die Welt. Es ist nicht so, dass wir hinterhergefahren wären. Die Dichte ist allerdings in diesem Jahr extrem hoch. Deshalb hoffe ich, dass uns die kühleren Temperaturen in der aktuellen Situation ein wenig entgegenkommen, wie im Warm-up in Portimao zu sehen war. Wir haben ein oder zwei Probleme ausgemacht, die nicht nur mit dem Grip zu tun haben, die wir dennoch in den Griff bekommen müssen. Ich denke, wenn die Bedingungen kühler sind, funktionieren diese Bereiche besser, und für die folgenden Rennen, wenn es wieder wärmer wird, müssen wir uns diesbezüglich optimal vorbereiten. Hoffentlich können wir vorher noch einen Test einschieben, um an bestimmten Dingen zu arbeiten. Jetzt freue ich mich erst einmal auf Assen, und ich finde es supercool, dass mein Kumpel Jonas (Folger) wieder dabei ist. Er ist immer eine gute und wertvolle Unterstützung. Ansonsten will ich das Wochenende geniessen, Spass mit dem Motorrad auf der Strecke haben und ich werde alles geben, um am Ende um das Podium kämpfen zu können. Das ist ganz klar das Ziel!»

EN: Looking for fun in the Netherlands

Marcel Schrötter wants to enjoy Assen’s «Cathedrale of Speed» to the full, what is a special race weekend for him and where he can count not only on the support of many German fans.

After a third place in the first race of the new season end of February at Phillip Island in South Australia, Marcel Schrötter was able to collect important points for the championship during the second round of the 2025 FIM Supersport World Championship in Portimao a week and a half ago, but he was unable to get into the fight for a podium finish. However, not much was missing to do so.

The ambitious racer from Upper Bavaria wants to change that when the series visits the legendary TT Circuit in Assen in the north of the Netherlands this weekend. 32-year-old Schrötter always enjoys riding in Assen and has already been able to set some highlights at the ultra-fast and flowing circuit, albeit not a year ago when the weather was bitterly cold and rainy.

The 4.5 km long track has a unique character, as most of the corners are ridden with high speed. Assen also has a very long history in motorbike racing and its proximity to the German border attracts many fans from Marcel Schrötter's home country every time.

«When I think back to Assen last year, I still get a little annoyed because the changeable weather meant that things did not go according to my expectations. But the forecast for this weekend is much more encouraging. So far it looks like the weather will be nice and the conditions stable. It is clear that temperatures will not be very warm in Assen at this time of year. But I will be happy if the weather is stable and dry, and the sessions are not affected by the onset of rain or even a bit of snow. Apart from that, I am really looking forward to Assen. Assen is always a special event because of its proximity to Germany, as the races attract many German fans. Although I would not call it a proper home race because it is a bit too far away, it is always a lot of fun to be at Assen.»

«As far as the sporting side is concerned, I hope that we can improve. We were not far off in Portimao, even if the results were disappointing. But the gaps to the podium were not the world. It is not as if we were cruising far down. However, the level of performance is extremely high this year. That is why I hope that the cooler conditions will favour us a bit in the current situation, as we saw in Sunday morning’s warm-up in Portimao. We have identified one or two issues that are not just to do with grip, but which we still need to get to grips with. I think when temperatures are cooler, these areas will work better and for the following races, when it gets warmer again, we need to prepare in the best possible way. Hopefully we can squeeze in a test beforehand to work on certain things. For now, I am looking forward to Assen and I think it is super cool that my mate Jonas (Folger) accompanies me. He is always a good and valuable support. Apart from that, I want to enjoy the weekend, having fun with the bike out on track and I will give everything to be able to fight for the podium in the end. That is clearly the goal!»
