Für Marcel Schrötter endete das siebte Rennwochenende der FIM Supersport World Championship in Portimao mit einem unglaublich schwierigen Rennen am späten Sonntagnachmittag.

Der 31-jährige Marcel Schrötter kämpfte mit stumpfen Waffen, als die Startampel erlosch. Mangels Grip am Hinterrad hatte er kaum eine Chance, seine Position zu verteidigen, obwohl sich der MV Agusta-Pilot zunächst einen harten Kampf um den achten Platz lieferte. Gegen Ende des Rennens konnte Schrötter Positionen gutmachen und überquerte die Ziellinie als Siebter. Aufgrund einer Strafe wurde er schließlich als Achter gewertet.

Die nächste Runde der Weltmeisterschaft wird am Wochenende vom 6. bis 8. September auf der Rennstrecke von Magny-Cours in Frankreich ausgetragen.

"Portimao war im Allgemeinen ein Wochenende, an dem ich das Gefühl hatte, wieder mehr Kontrolle über das Motorrad zu haben und es so fahren zu können, wie ich es möchte, auch wenn wir noch nicht das Niveau erreicht haben, auf dem wir waren. Aber es war auf jeden Fall ein Schritt in diese Richtung, und wir sind auch einen Schritt näher an die anderen herangekommen. Die beiden Spitzenreiter sind derzeit eine Nummer zu gross und zu weit weg. Aber der dritte Platz ist in Reichweite, das ist realistisch. Das war im gestrigen Rennen gut zu sehen, denn mit unserer Pace lagen wir nur zwei Zehntel hinter den ersten Verfolgern. Das können wir mit Arbeit aufholen."

"Der Sonntag begann mit einem soliden Warm-up, ich fühlte mich sehr wohl. Doch das Rennen am Nachmittag war eine Katastrophe. Ich hatte gleich vom Start weg grosse Probleme. Ich glaube, wir hatten einen schlechten Reifen. Natürlich ist das schwer zu beweisen, vor allem, wenn das Reifenbild normal aussieht. Aber die Daten zeigen ganz klar, dass ich viel mehr Spinning hatte als zum Beispiel gestern oder im Warm-up. Ausserdem war das Motorrad völlig gleich. Es war also ein unglaublich schwieriges Rennen, ich hatte das Gefühl, auf Eis zu fahren. Es war fast unmöglich, das Motorrad zu stoppen. Deshalb bin ich oft weit gefahren, weil das Hinterrad mich überholen wollte. Ich hatte null Grip am Hinterrad. Ich glaube, ich war fünf oder sechs Mal aus dem Sattel, weil ich fast einen Highsider hatte. Es war ein sehr schwieriges Rennen. Das möchte ich so schnell nicht wieder erleben."

EN: Top 10 despite zero rear grip

For Marcel Schrötter, round seven of the 2024 FIM Supersport World Championship in Portimao ended with an incredibly difficult race under the late Sunday afternoon sun.

31-year-old Marcel Schrötter was fighting with blunt weapons when the starting lights went out today at 4:30 pm local time. Due to a lack of grip on the rear tyre, he had less chance of defending his position, although the MV Agusta rider initially put up a tough fight for eighth place. Towards the end of the race, Schrötter was able to make up positions and crossed the finish line in seventh place. Due to a penalty, he was ultimately classified eighth.

The next round of the series will be held on the weekend of September 6-8 at the Circuit de Magny-Cours in France.

"Overall, Portimao was a weekend where I felt like I had more control over the bike again and could ride it the way I wanted to, even if we have not yet reached the level we were at. But it was definitely a step in that direction, and we also got a step closer to the others. The two frontrunners are currently a number too big for all and too far away. But third place is within reach, that is realistic. That was clear to see in yesterday's race, because with our pace we were only two tenths behind the guys there. We can make up for that with diligent work."

"Sunday started with a solid warm-up, I felt very comfortable. But the race in the afternoon was a disaster. I had big problems right from the start. I think we had a bad tyre. Of course, this is difficult to prove, especially when the tyre pattern looks normal. But the data clearly shows that I had a lot more spinning than yesterday or in warm-up at lunch time, for example. Also, the bike was completely the same. So, it was an incredibly difficult race, I felt like I was riding on ice. It was almost impossible to stop the bike. That was why I often went wide because the rear wheel wanted to overtake me. I had zero grip on the rear wheel. I think I was out of the saddle for five or six times because I almost highsided. It was a very difficult race. I do not want to experience that again so soon."
