Marcel Schrötter zeigte im zweiten Rennen am Sonntag unbändigen Ehrgeiz und Entschlossenheit, den Anschluss an die Spitze wieder herzustellen. Er setzte dabei seinen Plan in die Tat um.

Nach einem starken vierten Platz im Samstagsrennen hoffte Marcel Schrötter auf ein ähnliches Top-Ergebnis im zweiten Rennen bei der Premiere der FIM Supersport World Championship auf dem Cremona Circuit in der Lombardei in Italien. Der 31-jährige MV Agusta-Pilot startete als Siebter aus der dritten Reihe und konnte seine Position in den harten Kämpfen der ersten Runde halten. Danach brauchte er jedoch ein paar Runden, um in besser in Schwung zu kommen.

Je länger das Rennen dauerte, desto schneller wurde Schrötter. In der Schlussphase überholte er den Italiener und Markenkollegen Federico Caricasulo und machte mit den schnellsten Rennrunden in dieser Phase schnell Boden auf den drittplatzierten Thomas Booth-Amos gut. Nach 20 Runden sah Schrötter die Zielflagge in Cremona erneut auf einem guten vierten Platz und freute sich, vor den anwesenden MV Agusta Firmenchefs der beste Markenvertreter an diesem Wochenende gewesen zu sein.

Von Norditalien geht es direkt nach Spanien, wo am kommenden Wochenende im MotorLand Aragón Runde zehn der Meisterschaft ausgetragen wird.

"Ich bin zufrieden, wieder den vierten Platz belegt zu haben. Cremona war ein ordentliches Wochenende mit einem guten Schritt nach vorne. Mit einem sechsten Platz in der Superpole und zwei vierten Plätzen mit einer ordentlichen Race-Pace kann man absolut zufrieden sein. Das Podium ist ganz klar das Ziel, und da wollen wir auch hin. Aber wenn man bedenkt, wo wir an den vergangenen Rennwochenenden standen, waren wir diesmal wieder viel konkurrenzfähiger. Wir hatten hier auch einen akzeptablen Abstand zur Spitze. Es gibt noch ein paar übliche Probleme, wie zum Beispiel in der Anfangsphase, wo ich in beiden Rennen grosse Mühe hatte. In den ersten drei, vier oder fünf Runden fand ich es sehr schwierig, das Motorrad so zu fahren, wie ich es möchte. Dagegen wurde ich zum Ende hin immer stärker, oder ich konnte zumindest meine Pace halten, obwohl der Reifen seine beste Zeit längst hinter sich hat. Heute habe ich in der vorletzten Runde sogar meine schnellste Zeit gefahren. Aber das macht es schwierig, wenn man zu Beginn des Rennens viel Zeit verliert."

"Ich glaube, ich hatte nach vier Runden schon mehr als vier Sekunden Rückstand auf die Führenden. Im Ziel waren es nur neun Sekunden, trotz der vielen Zweikämpfe und Überholmanöver. Ich denke, diese Leistung ist nicht ganz falsch. Deshalb müssen wir uns darauf konzentrieren, eine stärkere Anfangsphase und ein Motorrad zu haben, mit dem ich mich am Anfang wohler fühle. Es sollte gleich sein, wie zum Ende hin, wo ich meinen Stil fahren kann. Das war gut zu sehen mit den Leuten um mich herum, wo ich der Schnellere war. Trotzdem möchte ich dem Team für die tolle Arbeit danken. Ich freue mich für uns alle. Es war auch wichtig, beim Heimrennen von MV Agusta der Beste der Marke zu sein. Ich denke, ich habe gezeigt, auch wenn es nicht für das Podium gereicht hat, dass ich immer noch schnell Motorrad fahren kann. Ich freue mich, dass ich der beste der MV Agusta Fahrer war. Die Tatsache, dass es nicht für das Podium gereicht hat, sind die wenigen Prozent, über die ich enttäuscht bin. Jetzt geht es direkt weiter nach Aragón, und ich hoffe, dass wir dort mindestens so stark weitermachen können wie hier und vielleicht ein bisschen näher ans Podium herankommen."

EN: Fourth place on Sunday to round off a pleasing Cremona weekend

Marcel Schrötter showed unbridled ambition and determination in the second race on Sunday to catch up with the front runners again. In doing so, he put his plan into action.

After a strong fourth place in Saturday's race, Marcel Schrötter was hoping for a similar top result in the second race at the premiere of the FIM Supersport World Championship at the Cremona Circuit in Lombardy, Italy. The 31-year-old MV Agusta rider started from P7 in row three and was able to maintain his position in the tough battles of the first laps. After that, however, he needed a few more laps to gain momentum.

The longer the race went on, the faster Schrötter became. In the final stages, he passed Italian rider and brand colleague Federico Caricasulo and quickly made up ground on third-placed Thomas Booth-Amos with the fastest race laps in last laps. After 20 laps, Schrötter again saw the chequered flag in Cremona in a good fourth place and was delighted to have been the best brand representative this weekend in front of the MV Agusta company bosses present.

From Northern Italy, it's straight to Spain, where round ten of the championship will be held next weekend at MotorLand Aragón.

“I am satisfied to have finished fourth again. Cremona was a decent weekend with a good step forward. With a sixth place in Superpole and two fourth places with a decent race pace, we can be absolutely satisfied. The podium is clearly the goal, and that's where we want to be. But considering where we were at the previous race weekends, we were much more competitive again this time. We also had an acceptable gap to the top here. There are still a few usual problems, such as in the early stages, where I had a lot of trouble in both races. In the first three, four or five laps I found it very difficult to ride the bike the way I wanted to. On the other hand, I got stronger towards the end, or at least I was able to maintain my pace, even though the tyre has long past its best. Today I even set my fastest time on the second last lap. But that makes it difficult when you lose a lot of time at the start of the race.”

“I think I was already more than four seconds behind the leaders after four laps. At the finish it was only nine seconds, despite the many battles and overtaking manoeuvres. I think this performance is not entirely wrong. That's why we have to focuss on having a stronger start and a bike that I feel more comfortable with at the beginning. It should be the same as towards the end where I can ride my style. It was good to see with the guys around me where I was the faster one. Still, I want to thank the team for the great job. I'm happy for all of us. It was also important to be the best of the brand at MV Agusta's home race. I think I showed, even if it wasn't enough for the podium, that I can still ride a fast bike. I am happy that I was the best of the MV Agusta riders. The fact that it wasn't enough for the podium is the few percent I'm disappointed about. Now it's straight on to Aragón and I hope that we can continue there at least as strongly as here and maybe get a little closer to the podium.”
