Marcel Schrötter hatte im ersten Misano-Rennen alle Hände voll zu tun, um den sechsten Platz und zehn wichtige Punkte für die Meisterschaft zu retten.

Das elfte Rennen der laufenden Saison der FIM Supersport World Championship wurde am Samstagmittag bei Temperaturen knapp unter der 30 Gradmarke gestartet. Die etwas kühleren Lufttemperaturen wirkten sich jedoch nicht auf den Asphalt aus, der sich um diese Zeit auf fast 45 Grad aufheizte und damit genauso heiss war wie am Freitagnachmittag zur Zeit der Superpole.

Marcel Schrötter kam aus der zweiten Startreihe als Vierter vorbildlich vom Fleck und reihte sich in der ersten Kurve als Dritter ein, eine Position, die er mehr als eine halbe Runde lang hielt. Auf dem langen Vollgasabschnitt im hinteren Streckenteil wurde der 32-Jährige von zwei Gegnern überholt. Mit ihnen tauschte er über weite Strecken häufig die Positionen.

Erst in der Schlussphase konnte Schrötter mit seinen direkten Gegnern nicht mehr mithalten, hauptsächlich wegen Problemen mit den Reifen. In der letzten Runde musste er Angriffe von hinten herankommenden Konkurrenten noch abwehren. Der sechste Platz im Ziel war der Lohn für den Willen und den Kampfgeist des Ducati-Piloten aus Oberbayern.

Das zweite Rennen des Wochenendes findet am Sonntagnachmittag auf dem Misano World Circuit statt. Die Startzeit ist wieder 12:35 Uhr.

«Platz sechs im heutigen Rennen war eine solide Leistung. Ich wusste bis zum Rennen nicht, wie und ob ich mithalten kann, denn die Trainings waren nicht gleichmässig stark. Nur eine gute Qualifying-Runde stach heraus. Das unterstreicht auch, wie wichtig die Superpole und ein guter Startplatz sind. Nach dem guten Start hatte ich gehofft, dass ich etwas näher und länger mit der Spitze mithalten kann. Aber es war schwierig für mich, mich an ein schnelles Hinterrad anzuhängen.»

«Nichtsdestotrotz haben wir wertvolle Daten gesammelt, und nach der detaillierten Analyse werden wir versuchen, das Motorrad ein wenig zu verbessern, um hoffentlich morgen ein bisschen mehr attackieren zu können. Gegen Rennende bekam ich Probleme mit den Reifen. Hauptsächlich deshalb, weil ich auf der Bremse oft viel Boden gutmachen musste. Dabei wurde der Vorderreifen etwas zu viel beansprucht und bei schwierigen Grip-Verhältnissen wie heute, war es nicht einfach, das Rennen zu beenden. Trotzdem sind wir als Sechster ins Ziel gekommen und waren nicht so weit hinter dem Sieger. Wir werden versuchen, uns für morgen zu verbessern, und hoffentlich können wir darauf aufbauend für das nächste Rennwochenende in ein paar Wochen weitere Schritte machen.»

EN. Solid Saturday race in hot Misano

Marcel Schrötter had his hands full in the first race of the weekend in Italy to save sixth place and ten important points for the championship.

The eleventh race of the current FIM Supersport World Championship season got underway at lunch time on Saturday in temperatures just below the 30-degree mark. However, the slightly cooler air temperatures had no effect to that on the asphalt, which heated up to almost 45 degrees at this time of the day, making it just as hot as it was on Friday afternoon during Superpole.

Marcel Schrötter got off to an exemplary start from the second row of the starting grid in fourth place and lined up third entering the first corner, a position he held for more than half a lap. The 32-year-old, however, has been got past by two opponents at the long full-throttle section in the last part of the track. He then frequently swapped positions with them for most of the 18 laps distance.

It was only in the final stages that Schrötter was no longer able to keep up with his direct opponents, mainly due to a tyre drop. On the last lap, he had to fend off attacks from rivals approaching from behind. Sixth place at the line was the reward for the Ducati rider’s will and fighting spirit.

«Sixth place in today's race was a solid performance because I did not know how and whether I could keep up until the race. This was due to our practice sessions were not consistently strong. Only one good qualifying lap stood out. That also underlines how important Superpole session on Friday afternoon and a good grid position are. After a good start, I had hoped that I would be able to keep up with the front runners a bit closer and for a longer time. But it was difficult for me to hang on to a fast rear wheel.»

«Nevertheless, we collected valuable data and after detailed analysis we will try to improve the bike a bit to hopefully be able to attack more tomorrow. Towards the end of the race, I had problems with the tyres. Mainly because I often had to make up a lot of ground on the brakes. This put a bit too much strain on the front and in difficult grip conditions like today, it was not easy to see the chequered flag. Nevertheless, we finished in sixth place and were not that far behind the winner. We will try to improve for tomorrow and hopefully we can build on that for the next race weekend in a couple of weeks.»
