Marcel Schrötter zeigte im ersten Supersport-Rennen des Wochenendes auf dem Misano World Circuit unweit der italienischen Adriaküste eine bemerkenswerte Leistung, die mit zehn wichtigen Punkten für die Meisterschaft belohnt wurde.

Frühsommerliches Wetter sorgte am Samstag für perfekte Bedingungen und erstklassigen Motorradsport auf dem 4,2 Kilometer langen Rundkurs des Misano World Circuit. Marcel Schrötter war einer der Hauptprotagonisten, auch wenn er nicht um einen Podiumsplatz kämpfen konnte.

In einer schwierigen Superpole am Freitagnachmittag kam der 31-jährige MV Agusta-Pilot nicht über den zwölften Platz in der vierten Startreihe hinaus, was seine Erwartungen für das Rennen schmälerte. Zudem verlor er beim Start weitere Positionen und fand sich im hinteren Mittelfeld wieder. Ab der zweiten Runde spielte er jedoch sein ganzes Können aus und überholte einen Gegner nach dem anderen, bis er in den letzten Runden die Lücke zum fünften Platz nicht mehr schliessen konnte. Schrötter fuhr im Rennen die siebtschnellste Rundenzeit und steht damit in der dritten Startreihe für das Rennen am Sonntag.

"Mit dem sechsten Platz konnten wir den Schaden einigermassen begrenzen. Mit meiner Leistung im Rennen bin ich zu 95 Prozent zufrieden, denn ich habe das Maximum herausgeholt. Abgesehen von dem bisher bescheidenen Verlauf des Wochenendes und einer sehr schwierigen ersten Runde, in der ich bis auf Platz 17 zurückgefallen bin, konnte ich mich bis auf den sechsten Platz vorkämpfen. Ich konnte viele Überholmanöver machen und es war ein unterhaltsames Rennen. Doch mit dem sechsten Platz war für mich Schluss, denn der Abstand zu meinem Vordermann war zu gross. Ich denke, das war das Maximum, das wir heute erreichen konnte."

"Dennoch bin ich mit der Gesamtsituation unzufrieden. Wir sind einfach zu weit weg von den Top-Leuten. Das passt überhaupt nicht zu meinen Vorstellungen, denn ich möchte ein ständiger Podiumskandidat sein und um die Meisterschaft kämpfen. Im Moment fühle ich mich ein bisschen chancenlos. Hoffentlich können wir bis morgen einen Schritt nach vorne machen und dann mit der besseren Ausgangsposition von Anfang an näher dranbleiben und bis zum Schluss um einen Platz zwischen drei und fünf kämpfen."

EN: Damage limitation with sixth place

Marcel Schrötter put in a remarkable performance in the first Supersport race of the weekend at the Misano World Circuit, which was rewarded with ten important points for the championship.

Early summer weather on Saturday ensured perfect conditions and first-class motorcycle racing on the 4.2-kilometer circuit of the Misano World Circuit not far from Italy’s famous Adriatic coastline. Marcel Schrötter was one of the main protagonists, even though he was unable to fight for a podium place today.

In a difficult Superpole on Friday afternoon, the 31-year-old MV Augusta rider did not make it past twelfth place on the fourth row of the starting grid, which diminished expectations for the race. He then also lost further positions at the start and found himself at the back of the middle of the pack. From the second lap onwards, however, he showed all his skills and overtook one competitor after the other until he was unable to close the gap to fifth place in the final laps. In doing so, Schrötter set seventh-fastest lap time during the race which put him to P7 on the third row of the grid for Sunday's race.

"With sixth place, we were able to limit the damage to some extent which is all-important. So, I'm 95 percent satisfied with my performance in the race, because I got the maximum out of it. Apart from the modest course of the weekend so far and a very difficult first lap, in which I dropped back to 17th place, I was able to fight my way up to sixth place. I was able to make a lot of overtaking manoeuvres and it was an entertaining race. But sixth place was the end for me, because the gap to the rider in front of me was too big. I think that was the maximum we could achieve today."

"Nevertheless, I am dissatisfied with the overall situation. We are simply too far away from the top riders. That doesn't suit my expectations at all, because I want to be a consistent podium contender and fight for the championship. At the moment I feel a bit hopeless. But hopefully we can make a step forward tomorrow and then, with a better starting position, we can stay closer from the beginning and fight for a position between third and fifth right to the end."
