Marcel Schrötter sieht Licht am Ende des Tunnels beim Rennwochenende an der portugiesischen Algarve-Küste, das aufgrund des speziellen Zeitplans sehr ungewöhnlich ist.

Der deutsche Supersport-WM-Pilot nahm das 13. Rennen der Saison bei brütender Hitze vom neunten Startplatz in der dritten Reihe aus in Angriff und konnte bereits in der ersten Runde eine Position gutmachen. Danach schnappte sich die MV Agusta zwei weitere Gegner und lag dank einer konstant guten Pace eine Zeit lang auf dem sechsten Platz, bis er dem von hinten herannahenden Franzosen Valentin Debise nichts mehr entgegenzusetzen hatte. In der Schlussphase waren Schrötters Bemühungen, seinen direkten Konkurrenten in der Punktetabelle einzuholen oder gar zu überholen, vergeblich.

"Bislang war es generell ein besseres Wochenende, was das Gefühl für das Motorrad angeht. Natürlich klingt es seltsam, das zu sagen, wenn man im Rennen alles geben muss, um um den siebten Platz zu kämpfen, denn wir wollen natürlich etwas anderes. Aber in Anbetracht der Situation, dass wir eine sehr schwierige Zeit hinter uns haben, fühle ich mich hier in Portimao zum ersten Mal wieder ein bisschen konkurrenzfähiger. Wir haben ein paar Dinge am Motorrad geändert, die wir noch optimieren müssen. Die ersten beiden sind eine Klasse für sich, das kann niemand bestreiten, aber der Rest ist in Reichweite. Vielleicht sind es eineinhalb, maximal zwei Zehntel pro Runde, die ein Manzi, der Dritter wurde, schneller fahren kann. Das ist nicht die Welt, und es ist aufzuholen."

"Was das Rennen selbst angeht, war es sehr schwierig. Ich hatte vor allem mit der Balance des Motorrads zu kämpfen, denn wie ich schon sagte, müssen wir die Änderungen, die wir vorgenommen haben, noch optimieren. Zum Glück fangen wir nicht bei Null an, denn so etwas hatten wir schon einmal. Trotzdem braucht es noch etwas Geduld. Dennoch hoffe ich, dass wir uns bald verbessern können. Es geht darum, diese ein oder zwei Zehntel pro Runde zu finden, dann sieht es wieder anders aus und wir sind wieder im Kampf um das Podium dabei. Wir müssen so weitermachen und sehen, ob wir uns morgen wieder verbessern können, damit wir die Top Fünf angreifen können."

EN: Not unhappy despite P7 on late Saturday afternoon

Marcel Schrötter sees light at the end of the tunnel at the race weekend on the Portuguese Algarve coast, which is very unusual due to the special schedule.

The German Supersport World Championship rider left the line for the 13th race of the season in sweltering heat from ninth on the grid on the third row and was able to make up a position on the very first lap. The MV Agusta rider then passed two more opponents, and, thanks to a consistently good pace, he was riding in sixth place for a while until he had nothing more to offer against the Frenchman Valentin Debise, who was approaching from behind. In the final phase, Schrötter's efforts to catch up with or even overtake his direct rival in the points table were in vain.

"So far it has generally been a better weekend in terms of feeling with the bike. Of course, it sounds strange to say that when you have to give everything in the race to fight for seventh place, because we obviously want something different. But considering the situation that we have had a very difficult time, I feel a bit more competitive here in Portimao for the first time again. We have changed a few things on the bike that we still need to optimize. The first two are in a class of their own, nobody can deny that, but the rest are within reach. Maybe it is one and a half, maximum two tenths per lap that Manzi, who finished third, can ride faster. That is not the world, for sure, and it is something to catch up."

"As for the race itself, it was very difficult. I mainly struggled with the balance of the bike because, as I said, we still have to optimize the changes we made. Fortunately, we are not starting from scratch, because we have had something like this before. Nevertheless, we still need some patience. Nevertheless, I hope that we can improve soon. It is about finding those one or two tenths per lap, then things will look different again and we will be back in the fight for the podium. We have to continue like this and see if we can improve again tomorrow so that we can attack the top five."
