Marcel Schrötter hatte am vergangenen Wochenende die Gelegenheit, den neuen Balaton Park Circuit in Ungarn kennen zu lernen.

Der 32-jährige Marcel Schrötter hat in den letzten anderthalb Wochen ein Monsterprogramm absolviert. Nach der eiligen Abreise vom Rennwochenende in Misano ging es direkt nach Japan zum offiziellen Test für das legendäre Acht-Stunden-Rennen in Suzuka, das am ersten Augustwochenende stattfindet. In Suzuka die Lederkombi ausgezogen, eilte der Rennprofi aus Oberbayern zum nächstgelegenen Flughafen, um den Rückflug nach Europa anzutreten. Sein Ziel war Budapest, von wo aus er an den Plattensee fuhr.

Am Samstag und Sonntag nahmen Schrötter und sein tschechisches Team WRP Racing an einem Track-Day-Event auf dem Balaton Park Circuit teil, der im nächsten Monat bei der siebten Runde der WoldSBK-Serie seine Feuertaufe erleben wird. Bei extremer Hitze, wie schon in Japan und auch am vorletzten Wochenende in Italien, spulte Schrötter sein Programm wie geplant ab. Die beiden Tage waren eine gute Vorbereitung auf das Rennwochenende im Juli.

Die FIM Supersport World Championship gastiert zuvor am zweiten Juli-Wochenende auf der englischen Traditionsstrecke Donington Park.

«Alles in allem waren es zwei gute Testtage für uns. Vor allem war es wichtig, die Strecke kennen zu lernen. Aber wie schon mehrfach erwähnt, ist es schwierig, bei einem Track-Day-Event wirklich zu testen. Da viele Amateurfahrer auf der Strecke sind, sind die freien Runden sehr begrenzt. Glücklicherweise durften wir am Sonntag an den Rennen teilnehmen, bei denen die Strecke in den ersten Runden frei war, bis die Überrundungen begannen. Wenigstens konnten wir in diesen wenigen Runden pushen und ein paar Dinge ausprobieren. Dennoch war es sehr hilfreich, im Hinblick auf das Rennwochenende im Juli schon einmal dort gewesen zu sein. Ich bin daher sehr dankbar, dass das Team diese beiden Tage organisiert hat.»

«Was das Layout der Strecke selbst angeht, so ist es aus Sicht eines Motorradfahrers nicht am besten und schönsten gelungen. Meiner Meinung nach wurde sie sehr auto-lastig gestaltet, mit vielen engen Schikanen. Einige von ihnen wurden später hinzugefügt, weil die Geschwindigkeiten für die Auslaufzonen sonst zu hoch gewesen wären. Der Grund dafür ist, dass an manchen Stellen kein Platz für grössere Auslaufzonen ist, also wurde die Strecke nach innen verlegt. Der erste Eindruck war also nicht wirklich cool. Aber nach ein paar Runden auf dem Motorrad ist es ganz okay. Trotzdem würde man sich als Motorradfahrer ein etwas flüssigeres und schöneres Streckenlayout vorstellen. Ansonsten ist die Anlage sehr schön und gross. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Plätzen, an denen wir fahren, ist alles sehr geräumig.»

EN: First to get to know Balaton Park Circuit

Marcel Schrötter had the opportunity to get a first ride at Hungary’s new Balaton Park Circuit in Hungary last weekend.

In the last week and a half, 32-year-old Marcel Schrötter has completed a monster program. After his hurried departure from the race weekend in Misano, he went straight to Japan for the official test for the legendary Suzuka 8 Hours race, which takes place on the first weekend in August. After taking off his leather suit in Suzuka, the racer from Upper Bavaria hurried to the nearest airport to catch his flight back to Europe. His destination was Budapest, from where he moved over to Lake Balaton.

On Saturday and Sunday, Schrötter and his Czech team WRP Racing took part in a track day event at the Balaton Park Circuit, which will experience its baptism of fire next month at the seventh round of the WoldSBK series. In extremely hot conditions, as in Japan and the weekend before last in Italy, Schrötter reeled off his program as planned. The two days were good preparation for the race weekend in July.

Before returning to Hungary, the FIM Supersport World Championship makes its trip to the Uk for its annual visit to the traditional Donington Park circuit at the second weekend in July.

«All in all, it was a good two days of testing for us. Above all, it was important to get to know the track. But as already mentioned several times, it is difficult to really test participating at a track day event. As there are a lot of hobby riders out on track, free laps are very limited for us professionals. Fortunately, we were allowed to take part in the races on Sunday, where the track was traffic-free for the first few laps until lapping began. At least we were able to push and try out a few things on those few laps. Nevertheless, it was very helpful to have been there before in view of the race weekend in July. I am therefore very grateful that the team organized these two days.»

«As for the layout of the track itself, from a motorcyclist's point of view, it is not the best and most beautiful. In my opinion, it was designed to be very car-heavy, with lots of tight chicanes. Some of them were added later because the speeds would otherwise have been too high for the run-off areas. The reason for this is that in some places there is no room for larger run-off areas, so the track was moved inwards. So, the first impression was not really cool. But after a few laps with the bike, it is okay. Nevertheless, as a motorcyclist you would imagine a slightly faster and more flowing and nicer track layout. Otherwise, the complex is very nice and big. In contrast to other places where we race, everything is very spacious.»
