Marcel Schrötter zeigte am Sonntag in Most nach einer haarigen Situation in der Schikane eine starke Aufholjagd.

Für den ehrgeizigen Marcel Schrötter verlief das sechste Saisonmeeting der FIM Supersport World Championship auf dem Autodrom Most in der Tschechischen Republik weniger nach seinem Gusto. Wie schon am Samstagmorgen machte auch das heutige Warm-up Hoffnung für das Rennen. Schrötter beendete die Session auf dem fünften Platz, mit etwas mehr als einer halben Sekunde Rückstand auf die Spitze.

Der MV Agusta Fahrer blickte daher dem zweiten Rennen am Nachmittag aufgrund des deutlich besseren Gefühls erwartungsvoll entgegen. Seinem Streben nach einem starken Finish wurde jedoch nur wenige hundert Meter nach dem Start ein gewaltiger Dämpfer versetzt, als sein Teamkollege Bahattin Sofuoglu in eine Kollision mit dem Franzosen Lucas Mahias verwickelt wurde.

Schrötter ist in der Punktetabelle um eine Position zurückgefallen und geht nun als Gesamtfünfter in die dreiwöchige Pause bis zum nächsten Rennen in Portimao, Portugal.

"Es tut mir leid, das sagen zu müssen, aber die Dinge scheinen im Moment nicht besser zu laufen. Ich denke, wir hätten hier in Most ein etwas besseres Rennwochenende haben können als letzte Woche. Obwohl wir gestern um den sechsten Platz kämpften, endete das Rennen weniger erfreulich, weil am Ende nur Platz sieben auf dem Papier stand. Heute habe ich mich etwas stärker gefühlt, aber dann musste in der ersten Schikane wieder etwas passieren. Andererseits sollten wir auch nicht aus der dritten Reihe starten, denn wie ich schon öfters gesagt habe, ist unser Motorrad nicht das Beste am Start, vor allem im Vergleich zur Konkurrenz aus Bologna. Dazu kommt noch, dass es auf Strecken wie dieser sehr leicht ist, in der ersten Kurve nach dem Start in Schwierigkeiten zu geraten."

"Heute war es nicht anders. Ich musste den beiden vor mir gestürzten Fahrern ausweichen und dann wegen Bahattins Motorrad sogar komplett abbremsen. Davor hatte ich selbst eine Berührung mit einem anderen Fahrer. Als ich aus der Schikane herauskam, war ich nicht weit vor dem Letzten des Feldes. In Anbetracht der Umstände denke ich, dass ich mit dem neunten Platz das Maximum herausgeholt habe. Ich denke, ich bin ein starkes Rennen gefahren. Aber das hilft uns auch nicht weiter, denn das ist einfach die Situation, in der wir uns im Moment befinden. Deshalb hoffe ich, dass wir in der Pause bis Portimao ein paar Dinge ändern können, damit wir dort wieder konkurrenzfähiger sind."

Marcel Schrötter showed a strong comeback on Sunday in Most after a scary situation in the chicane.

For the ambitious Marcel Schrötter, the sixth meeting of this year’s FIM Supersport World Championship season at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic went less to his liking. As on Saturday morning, today's warm-up also raised hopes for the race. Schrötter finished the session in fifth place, just half a second off the top.

Given to a mech better with his bike, the MV Agusta rider therefore was looking forward to the second race in the afternoon. However, his quest for a strong finish was dealt by a huge blow just a few hundred meters after the start when his team-mate Bahattin Sofuoglu was involved in a collision with Frenchman Lucas Mahias.

Schrötter has dropped down one position in the points table and is now fifth overall going into the three-week break until the next race in Portimao, Portugal.

“I am sorry to have to say this, but things obviously do not to be going any better at the moment. I think we could have had a slightly better race weekend here in Most than last week. Although we were fighting for sixth place yesterday, the race ended less satisfactorily because in the end we only finished seventh. Today I felt a bit stronger, but then something had to happen again in the first chicane. On the other hand, we should not start from the third row because, as I have often said, our bike is not the best at the start, especially compared to the competition from Bologna. On top of that, it is very easy to get into trouble in the first corner after the start at tracks like this one.”

“Today was no different. I had to avoid the two riders who crashed in front of me and then even slow down completely because of Bahattin's bike. Before that, I had a contact with another rider myself. When I came out of the chicane, I was not far ahead of the last rider in the field. Considering the circumstances, I think I got the maximum out with ninth place. I think I did a strong race. But that does not help us either, because that is just the situation we are in at the moment. That is why I hope that we can change a few things during the break until Portimao so that we can be more competitive again there.”
