Für Marcel Schrötter wurde das zweite Rennen in Portimao zum Kampf gegen Windmühlen. Genauso schnell wie die Konkurrenz, verlor er jedoch oftmals in den letzten Kurven zu viel Zeit, um auf der anschliessenden langen Geraden in Schlagdistanz zu sein.

Marcel Schrötter hatte am zweiten Rennwochenende der FIM Supersport World Championship 2025 auf der selektiven Strecke des Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in der portugiesischen Hafenstadt Portimao mehr zu kämpfen als er erwartet hatte. Nach einem hart erkämpften sechsten Platz am Samstagnachmittag kam der 32-jährige Ducati-Pilot am Sonntag nicht über den achten Platz hinaus. Mangelnder Grip am Hinterrad im letzten Streckenabschnitt war das Problem, das es ihm ermöglichte, mit mehr Schwung auf die Start-/Zielgerade zu kommen.

Die Meisterschaft wird in zwei Wochen mit dem Meeting in Assen im Norden der Niederlande fortgesetzt.

«Leider war Portimao nicht das Wochenende, auf das ich mich gefreut hatte. Ich bin mit klaren Zielen und Erwartungen hierhergekommen, aber wir haben sie im Hinblick auf die Ergebnisse verfehlt. Aber auch die Art und Weise, wie ich mich in den letzten drei Tagen gefühlt habe, war ein wenig daneben. Das einzig Positive am zweiten Rennen ist, dass sich unser Abstand zur Spitze in Grenzen hielt. Ich hatte den jeweiligen Führenden lange Zeit im Visier. Erst als sich Bendsneyder mit einer starken Pace an der Spitze absetzen konnte, war es vorbei. Die zweit- und drittplatzierten Fahrer waren dagegen praktisch immer knapp vor mir. Frustrierend war allerdings, dass wir auf den Geraden nur sehr schwer mithalten konnten. Das Problem trat in den letzten beiden Kurven auf, wo es an Grip mangelte. Bis zu diesem Stellen konnte ich mich in jeder Runde an die Spitze heranarbeiten und war genauso schnell wie die anderen. Aber dann kommt man aus den letzten beiden Kurven heraus und es fühlt sich an, als läge man fünf Zehntel zurück. Ich wurde entweder überholt oder hatte keine Chance, mitzuhalten.»

«Das ist ein Punkt, der mich ein wenig stört. Ansonsten war das Gefühl gut, ich spüre, es fehlt wirklich nicht viel. In diesem Bereich müssen wir uns verbessern. Meine Rundenzeiten sind gut, wir reden von maximal zwei Zehnteln und ich bin im Kampf um Platz zwei. Das ist definitiv die Lücke, die wir als erstes schliessen müssen. Ich hoffe, dass wir alle an einem Strang ziehen und alle Register ziehen, damit wir das bald schaffen. Denn wenn noch zwei, drei Rennwochenenden so verlaufen, dann ist der Zug in der Gesamtwertung endgültig abgefahren. Wir sind schon ein wenig im Rückstand, also müssen wir hart an diesen Punkten arbeiten. Ansonsten ist an diesem Wochenende wieder alles gut gelaufen. Die Stimmung im Team ist gut, ich fühle mich wohl und freue mich über die gute Arbeit meiner Crew. Vielleicht können wir bald ein oder zwei Tests einschieben, bei denen wir hauptsächlich mit dem Fahrwerk und an der Abstimmung arbeiten, um uns zu verbessern. Wir müssen wieder konkurrenzfähiger werden und auch schauen, dass wir mehr Leistung aus unserem Motorrad herausholen.»

For Marcel Schrötter, the second race in Portimao was a battle against windmills. Just as fast as his opponents, he often lost too much time in the final corners to be within striking distance on the following long straight.

Marcel Schrötter struggled more than he expected on the second race weekend of the FIM Supersport World Championship 2025 at the challenging Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in the outback of the Portuguese port city of Portimao. After a hard-fought sixth place on Saturday afternoon, the 32-year-old Ducati rider was unable to finish higher than eighth on Sunday. A lack of grip on the rear wheel in the final section of the track was the problem that didn’t allowed him to get onto the start/finish straight with more momentum.

The championship continues in two weeks' time with the meeting in Assen in the north of the Netherlands.

«Unfortunately, Portimao was not the weekend I was looking forward to. I came here with clear goals and expectations, but we missed them in terms of results. But also, the way I felt over the last three days was a bit off. The only positive thing about the second race is that our gap to the leaders was limited. I had the leader in my sights for a long time. It was only when Bendsneyder was able to pull away at the front with a strong pace that it was over. The second and third-placed riders, on the other hand, were practically always just ahead of me. It was frustrating, however, that we found it very difficult to keep up on the straights. The problem occurred in the last two corners, where there was a lack of grip. Up to this point, I was able to work my way up to the front on every lap and was just as fast as the others. But then you come out of the last two corners, and it feels like you're five tenths behind. I was either overtaken or had no chance of keeping up.»

«That is one point that bothers me a bit. Apart from that, the feeling was good, I feel there really is not much missing. We need to improve in this area. My lap times are good, we are talking about a maximum of two tenths, and I am in the fight for second place. That is definitely the gap we need to close first. I hope that we all pull together and pull out all the stops so that we can do it soon. Because if two or three more race weekends go like this, then the train in the overall standings will have finally left the station. We are already a little behind, so we have to work hard on these points. Apart from that, everything went well again this weekend. The atmosphere in the team is good, I feel comfortable, and I am pleased with the good work of my crew. Maybe we can squeeze in one or another test soon, where we mainly work on the suspension and set-up to improve. We have to become more competitive again and also make sure that we get more power out of our bike.»
