Marcel Schrötter kehrte beim zweiten Saisonmeeting der neuen EURO MOTO Superbike auf die Erfolgsspur zurück. Der 33-Jährige gewann am Sonntag auf dem Automotodrom Brno als Klassen-Rookie sein erstes Rennen in der stark besetzten Meisterschaft.

Bereits beim Saisonauftakt vor drei Wochen am Sachsenring liess Marcel Schrötter mit starken Leistungen anklingen, dass mit ihm auf dem BMW-Superbike des Teams GERT56 by RS Speedbikes zu rechnen ist.

Beim zweiten Meeting der Serie, ehemals Internationale Deutsche Motorradmeisterschaft, am vergangenen Wochenende auf der Rennstrecke im südmährischen Brünn kamen die Teams und Fahrer in den Genuss, sich mit einem am Donnerstag zusätzlich eingeschobenen Trainingstag optimal auf die bevorstehenden Aufgaben vorzubereiten.

Schrötter und seine Crew des in Prina beheimateten Teams packten die Gelegenheit beim Schopf, was mit einer überlegenen Pole-Positionen am Samstagnachmittag getoppt wurde. Der BMW-Pilot blieb als Einziger unter der 1´57er-Marke und war eine knappe halbe Sekunde schneller als der Zweitplatzierte.

Am Sonntag im ersten Rennen schlug dann seine Stunde. Schrötter setzte seine Strategie perfekt um und sah nach 13 Runden als Sieger die Zielflagge. Als Draufgabe fuhr er mit 1´57.722 die schnellste Rennrunde. Im zweiten Lauf am Nachmittag mutete er seinen Reifen etwas zu viel zu, stand aber als Dritter ein zweites Mal auf dem Podest.

In der Punktetabelle ist Schrötter dem Führenden Lukas Tulovic und aktuellem Champion bis auf fünf Punkte nahegerückt.

Die nächste Station ist am letzten Juni-Wochenende das Autodrom Most, ebenfalls bei den Nachbarn in der Tschechischen Republik.

«Brünn war ein super Wochenende im Allgemeinen. Die Pole-Position und der Sieg im ersten Rennen überstrahlen natürlich alles – ich bin sehr happy. Wir haben von Anfang an gute Arbeit geleistet. Der Testtag am Donnerstag kam uns dabei sehr gelegen, da wir weitere Sachen probieren konnten, um das Motorrad besser zu verstehen. Das gilt nicht nur für mich, was ich brauche, sondern auch für das Team, das im Winter mit den Federelementen zu Öhlins wechselte. Alles in allem war dieser Tag eine grosse Hilfe, da wir mehr Zeit auf der Strecke hatten und das Motorrad besser meinen Bedürfnissen abstimmen konnten. Im Grossen und Ganzen haben wir unsere Aufgaben gut gemacht und sind in jeder Session nähergekommen, vor allem im Vergleich zu Markus Reiterberger, der am vergangenen Wochenende mit dem EWC und seinem Motorrad, wie er es in dieser Meisterschaft verwendet, beim Testen in Brünn war. Das heisst, er war schon richtig eingeschossen und hat auch entsprechend losgelegt. Aber wir haben ständig aufgeholt und am Samstag war die Superpole mit der Pole-Position als Ergebnis optimal. Das war mein erster grosser Glücksmoment an diesem Wochenende.»

«Die Vorbereitung für das erste Rennen ist sozusagen mit Auszeichnung erledigt worden. Trotzdem gab es vor dem Start viele Fragezeichen, da der Reifenverschleiss sehr hoch war. Daher war meine Taktik, ein bisschen abzuwarten, was passiert. Als Markus die Führung übernommen hatte, liess ich ihn etwas ziehen, aber eben nur so viel, dass ich mir sicher war, ihn auch wieder einholen zu können. Das ist mir gut gelungen, ich bin ihm wieder nähergekommen. Als ich dran war, bekam er seine Probleme, und so konnte ich mir den Rest des Rennens wieder gut einteilen, auch wenn plötzlich Florian Alt von hinten bedrohlich aufholte. In dieser Phase war Markus meine Referenz, aber ich ging dann schnell an ihm vorbei und fuhr mein Ding zu Ende. Ich habe mich riesig über meinen ersten Sieg an meinem erst zweiten Rennwochenende in dieser für mich neuen Meisterschaft gefreut.»

«In Race 2 habe ich mich bis ca. Mitte der Distanz wieder sehr stark gefühlt. In diesem Lauf war es aber Lukas Tulovic, der und sein Team nach einem bis dahin für sie schwierigen Wochenende etwas gefunden haben und definitiv wieder konkurrenzfähig waren, der mich in Führung liegend unter Druck setzte. Aber das Gefühl mit dem Motorrad war gut, und ich war mir sicher alles unter Kontrolle zu haben, bis ein paar kleine Probleme auftraten, deren Ursache wir noch finden müssen. Jedenfalls musste ich mehr pushen als gewollt und auch von der Elektronik her mehr freischalten, um diese Probleme zu überfahren und den Anschluss nicht zu verlieren. Alles zusammen ging das auf Kosten der Reifen. Ich war also an einem Punkt angelangt, an dem man innerhalb einer Runde ziemlich einbrechen kann, was bei mir der Fall war. In diesen ein, zwei Runden habe ich meinen Hinterreifen kaputtgemacht und konnte die Pace der Vorderen leider nicht mehr halten. Das zeigt, wie schnell es gehen kann, dass ein dritter Platz eine Enttäuschung ist. Diese ist aber längst überwunden, denn viel wichtiger ist, wieder ganz vorne dabei zu sein, am Podium zu stehen. Die Bilanz von Brünn mit Pole-Postion, Platz eins und drei kann sich auf jeden Fall sehen lassen. Daher ein grosser Dank an das gesamte Team. Brünn war ein super Wochenende, an dem wir einen sehr guten Job gemacht haben. Wir haben mit dem Motorrad einen Weg eingeschlagen, mit dem ich sehr happy bin. Ich hoffe, dass das eine Basis ist, die auch bei den nächsten Rennen gut funktioniert. Danke Jungs, ich freue mich schon auf den nächsten Event mit euch.»

EN: Pole position, victory, fastest race lap and another podium in Brno

At the second meeting of the new EURO MOTO Superbike season, Marcel Schrötter returned to winning ways. On Sunday, the 33-year-old won the first race in the highly competitive championship at the Automotodrom Brno as a class rookie.

As early as the season opener three weeks ago at the Sachsenring, Marcel Schrötter hinted with strong performances that he is a rider to be reckoned with aboard the GERT56 by RS Speedbikes team's BMW superbike.

At the second meeting of the series, formerly International German Motorcycle Championship, held last weekend at the circuit in Brno, South Moravia, the teams and riders were able to take advantage of an additional day of practice on Thursday to prepare optimally for the tasks ahead.

Schrötter and his crew from the Pirna-based squad seized the opportunity, which was topped by a superior pole position on Saturday afternoon. The BMW rider was the only one to dip under the 1:57 mark and was almost half a second faster than the runner-up.

Then, on Sunday in the first race, his moment arrived. Schrötter executed his strategy perfectly and saw the chequered flag as the winner after 13 laps. As a bonus, he set the fastest race lap with a time of 1´57.722. In Race 2 in the afternoon, he pushed his tyres a bit too hard, but still saw himself on the podium for a second time in third place.

In the points table, Schrötter has closed the gap to the leader Lukas Tulovic and the current champion to five points.

The next stop is the Autodrom Most on the last weekend of June, also with our neighbours in the Czech Republic.

«In general, Brno was a great weekend. Pole position and victory in the first race naturally outshine everything – I am very happy. We did a good job right from the start. The test day on Thursday was very convenient for us, as we were able to try out more things to understand the bike better. This applies not only to me and what I need, but also to the team, which switched to Öhlins suspension components last winter. All in all, that day was a big help, as we had more time on track and we were able to setup the bike better to my needs. By and large, we did our homework well and got closer in every session, especially compared to Markus Reiterberger, who was testing in Brno last weekend with the EWC and the bike he uses in that championship. That means he was already well dialled in and started off accordingly. But we were constantly catching up, and on Saturday, the Superpole session with pole position as the result was optimal. That was my first big moment of happiness that weekend.»

«The preparation for the first race was, so to speak, completed with distinction. Nevertheless, there were many question marks before the start, as tyre wear was very high. Therefore, my tactic was to wait a bit and see what happened. When Markus took the lead, I let him pull away a little, but only just enough to be sure that I could catch him again. I managed that well, and I got closer to him again. When I was right behind him, he started having problems, and so I was able to pace the rest of the race well, even though Florian Alt suddenly started catching up threateningly from behind. During that stage, Markus was my reference, but I then quickly overtook him and rode my own race to the finish. I was hugely happy about my first victory in only my second race weekend in this championship, which is new to me.»

«In Race 2, I felt very strong again until about halfway through the distance. In this race, however, it was Lukas Tulovic and his team who, after a difficult weekend up to that point for them, found something and were definitely competitive again, putting me under pressure while I was leading. But the feeling with the bike was good, and I was sure I had everything under control until a few small problems arose, the cause of which we still need to find. In any case, I had to push harder than I wanted to and also unlock more in terms of electronics to override these problems and not lose touch. All in all, this came at the expense of the tyres. So, I had reached a point where you can collapse quite quickly within a lap, which was the case for me. In those one or two laps, I ruined my rear tyre and unfortunately could no longer keep up with the pace of the leaders. This shows how quickly a third place can become a disappointment. But that has long since been overcome, because it is much more important to be right at the front again, to be on the podium. The balance sheet from Brno with pole position, first and third place is definitely something to be proud of. Therefore, a big thank you to the entire team. Brno was a great weekend where we did a very good job. We have embarked on a path with the bike that I am very happy with. I hope that this is a basis that will also work well in the next races. Thanks guys, I'm already looking forward to the next event with you.»
